Default NEED HELP WITH 96 CIVIC.. you could win $3.

Alright whoever is the first to answer the question correct I will paypal them $3. I just bought a 96 civic, the kid didnt know what was wrong with it. The alarm would go off and the car naturally wouldnt start. He didnt have the remote for the alarm, so he was pushing the valet buron and the alarm would go off. So I go and pick the car up, push the valet button and the car started, ran for about ten mins. and then died. Got home with the car, took the alarm out completely, and tried to start the car. Its doing the same thing as when the alarm was in, when the key is turned the engine turns but it wont start. The speedo needle goes bonkers, and there is a weird noise coming from the computer. Does anybody have a clue what i am saying here? If you r the first to answer the question correctly I will paypal you a dollar for your troubles.

if the alarm had a starter kill feature, check for that. trace the alarm wiring back, there could also have been the alarm hood sensor in case someone was to pop the hood.. all of these can still be 1/2 wired to your dash harness which wouldn't be so fun.

With the speedo needle going crazy like that ... sounds like you go a ignition module going out. Had a old Mazda 626 that did that. Maybe!

Threads like these always grab so much attention because its "free money" if you get it right. But seriously how many of these people actually send out money when someone helps then with the correct answer? I think these threads are the same as "which motor should i get, im a millionaire?" They should be ignored and dropped to page 10 or locked. They're jokes.

Because im not a complete dick and post without helping..... sounds like you fucked up taking off the alarm. Suggestion, put it back on and see what happens.

Its not the alarm, and I will pay the $2. I just think it makes it more fun to do something for someone even if it is only $2. Anyways heres what i found out today, as soon as i got outside this morning i went and started the car No problems, it ran for about twenty mins. and i went and took it for a spin, the car died after about thirty seconds of driving. I go to start it back up and it wont start, but i noticed that the check engine light was not coming on before I would turn the key all the way foward. When i put the key in the on position the oil, batt, srs lights come on but not the check engine light, and the fuel pump is not priming because of this. When i do turn the key all the way foward the speedo starts to go crazy and the ecu is making some wierd noises, but the car kinda wants to start, also the check engine light is flashing on and off when i turn the key. Sorry for such long *** comments.

Ok now i think its the key and ignition. I put the key and rattle the key a bit and when the door is open the chime stops beeping, rattle it a little more and it starts to beep again. Plus its real loose in there, the key is kinda hard to turn back and get out with a likttle rattling. Anyone else ever have this problem?

Will a ignition from an automatic 95 integra work in a 96 civic?

It was doing it with the alarm in the car also. So heres what i found out today. When i turn the key foward the check engine light still dosent come on, but it will start after a few turns, the check engine light blinks like crazy and the car hesitates to start but does. It runs like **** when it is running, and as soon as i touch the gas, the engine light goes crazy and the main relay starts to make that buzz noise, then the car dies. I know its not the main relay because i swapped it out wiyh a good one and it still does it.So any one have any ideas.

check the wires between the under dash fuse box and the ignition colum. I remember when i had my turbo timer i think i had a lose wire or something, and soemtimes when i'd take the key out my speedo would go crazy for a second and then fall to zero ( i know it's strange).

Also what kind of alarm was it? Most alarms (like my viper) have a relay which you just splice into the ignition wires in the steering colum. Make sure all the connections there are good, also going into the fuse box.

check to see what kind of codes you are throwing. Is the CEL light blinking with the car running?

I dont know wht kind of alarm it was, it was a clean install, all aftermarket oem plug and play so to speak. Everything just pluged into the original harness. This is driving me crazy.

Ya but there is no alarm in my car anymore, it was completely taken out the right way. Im gonna trace the wires on the ignition to the fuse panel, see if anything is hacked there.
