My engine seems to be making a rattling noise that's gotten progressively louder the past three times i've driven it. I havent been able to look at it yet, because it's been dark these three times when i finished driving. It rattles basically between 2500 and 3500 rpm (2500 is around the rpm i cruise at) with my throttle position being right around where it needs to be to maintain a steady speed at those RPMs. The car can be in neutral and it'll make the same noise under the same condition. It doesnt seem to be effecting my performance any, but i've not taken it above like 4500 since it started doing this. Anyone got any ideas?

 

my car did somthing similar it ended up being pre detination. bad timing

i was afraid it could be that...fortunately, i've never had a car that had pinging problems, so i dont really know exactly what it sounds like (just from educated guesses from what i've read). I'll see if i can get my hands on a timing light and try to see if that's it

dont have a heatshield...but it definitely seems to be an engine noise...like is aid i cant really check atm cause it's dark and i dont have a particularly decent source of light i could use

does your car have an eftermarket cam gear?

well check your timing. if its not that it might be bad gass? did you take off your heat sheild? the reason i ask is because if the bottom is not there it might be the top part of the heat sheild rattling around.

 

hmm...i dunno if we're thinking the same heatshield...i put on a header and the heatshield heatshield i'm talking about was just a single piece in front of the stock header that came right off

 

is one on your cat? or did you remove that with the header?

ah...yea that one's still on...but it's been like a year or so since i did the header/catback, so i dunno if that'd be it, but i'm sure as hell not gonna rule anything out until i know
hell, i'm gonna go try that one now out of curiousity
edit: nope, sounds like it's coming from either the block or head
damn...just looked at the price of timing lights...does advance or autozone rent out timing lights? Is $160 expensive?

i do not know if they rent or not? if it sounds like from the head i am almost positive it your timing.... your getting detination. your dizzy might be turned under pressure mabye the bolts a a little loose? let me know what you come up with!!
