Is D16a6 a direct bolt in to 84-87 Civic?? More.......
Hey guys, I been pondering the thought of building a Drag car SOHC, V-tec (Mini-Me), TURBO. I was at the local salvage yard today picking up a T04 Turbo out of an old Merkur XR4 for custom setup for my b18 CRX, well anyway I came across a 84-87 Civic Hatch in good condition apart from it looked like it didn't run and was missing a couple wheels. and the interior was pretty thrashed, but all I need is a body. I've really been wanting to start a SMALL displacement Drag car. My plans, cCar, don't know what really but thats where you guys come in. I want to build on a D15 block from a 95 Civic (friends engine), D16z6 Head from a 94 civic Si, and a Greddy T25 setup. My main question is will the 5th gen dseries engine bolt into the 3rd gen engine bay? How much of a wiring nightmare should I be anticipating? I'd really like to take on the project just need to know what I will really need to make it work. i already have all the mechanics, such as the block head tranny and turbo, just been looking for a shell, hence the other post I have on the board. I think It would be really cool to build up a 3rd gen because I haven't seen many, especially at the track. I don't think it'll take me too long to build the car either unsless I'm out needing to get special mounts and linkage and all. Axles and hubs won't be a problem because the local salvage yard has all the stock 4th and 5th gen parts I'll need. I'd really appreciate the help and any ideas you guys might have on my project. Thanks

i dont think that it will bolt up very easily but it might be possible to use some other mounts, the swap would be very custom and the wiring will be a b!tch. To save yourself a lot of hassle be sure to get the s.i. model (1500S for 84-85 and si for 86-87) because it was the only model that was fuel injected for the third gen civics. For more info and help go to http://www.3rdgencivic.com
The D16A1 is the only D series engine that will easily bolt into the 1g CRX. The one that will bolt right in is the 86-87 Integra engine/tranny. The brown top DOHC ZC is also a direct fit.
The problem with the D16A6, D16Z6, and D16Y8 are that there engine/tranny mounts are in way different locations. It takes some serious fabrication to make this swap work properly.

Ok I've also stayed sleaer of the ZC, but the salvage yard does have an 89 Integra. but my question is I've heard there is NOTHING out there for the ZC, with the exception of what you can use D-series(ie, intake, turbos, trannies) so would it reall be worth my time TRYING to race a ZC?
