Default Got a fix it ticket for my exhaust

When I go to the place to let them see if 'fixed' it (police station I guess), are they going to make me pop my hood?

Anyone have any experience with this? I've got one before, but it was in a smaller town and they just checked out how loud it was and said ok. But I live in so-cal now

you know what im not sure if there going to pop your hood or not, but i do know that you will have to appear in front of a judge for that fix it ticket. california state law says that exhaust fix it tickets have to be taken to the judge.

the reason i wouldnt know is that the cop that signed it off was a friend of mine and when i went to see the judge he saw the sig and said okay and let me be on my way. with a 10$ fine of course.

when you drive what we drive it gets like that

i once got pulled over in my car and was harassed for 30 mins and told not to move for supposedly driving a stolen car.. yeah i was in my car. then when he found out that it was my car and felt like a jackass he gave me **** about my exhaust and told me that he wanted me to take my rosarie off my review.

some cops are dicks, but i do admit some of them are really cool

- they'll just look at the exhaust, sign the paper & be on their way
- i never seen a judge, just went to the traffic division and paid the $10

Did you get a ticket for aftermarket muffler or noise? Aftermarket muffler you could get written off, noise you might have to see the state ref (no big deal though)

Search! this is talked about all the time!

make an appointment with a REF and they will check your exhaust noise level and get you cleared. The test is free. The only thing that makes an exhaust illegal is if its too loud.

first put on a stock exhaust and go find any police officer on duty. Tell him that you want him to sign it off. After that just mail it in with 10 bucks or you could go to court and pay the 10 dollar fine. No they will not pop your hood. Only the state ref will pop your hood. If it doesnt have a state ref sticker on back of it then you need to let a police sign it off.

Haha...not really! We aren't the worst state when it comes to exhaust. Some states try and put thru that you can only use the factory exhaust, and any aftermarket is illegal. Here in CA they only put a noise limit on your exhaust, at 95 dB at 2/3 of the stock rpm limit.

why do you guys put exhausts on your daily driver, your track/race car should be the only one with an exhaust...

driving around a 13-16 second street car like 99% of you do with an exhaust it just attracting attention to yourself.

Because for most of us, our street car is out "track car."

Wait...so what is under your hood that you want to hide from the cops?! I had a fix it ticket once too. I had to rigged up a silencer and stuffed it with paper towels then stuck that in right before the cop took a look at it. Then removed it and was on my merry way.

That's the first mistake. The first rule of hot rodding, that carries over into tuning, is don't wrench on the daily driver, unless you have a backup.
