Gas Gauge Cluster, Non-accurate readings
The needle on my gauge cluster always reads full. the needle is slightly above F, so I’m guessing the Gauge cluster is broken… but couple months back while driving the needle would go up by itself and down by itself. I need an accurate reading on how much gas I have in the car, so what could this be?
Solutions,
-buy a new gauge cluster to see if that could be the issue
That’s all I have in mind… anyone want to help?
Thanks in advance

I would suspect the sending unit or the wiring to it. The helms manual can give you the "full" and "empty"resistance values. Subsitute the proper value at the sender and see if it reads properly. What year and model do you have?
you can try unplugging the sending unit. see if that makes the gauge drop.
has the cluster been modified or taken out? if the screws werent put back in right, it will mess with the resistances and cause it to always read full.

I just put a 2001 type r cluster in my car and had the same problem. you need to run a 94-96 cluster. or you can just swap the green film on the back of the cluster

The sender resistance at "F" = 2-5 ohms "1/2" = 25.5-39.5 ohms, and "E" = 105-110 ohms according to the Helms manual.
Get a 100 ohm wire wound (high wattage) resistor and put it across the black/white and the yellow/white wires at the tank. (Under the rear seat and behind the fuel gauge/fuel pump access plate.) Turn on the ignition the gauge should read "E".
Send me an email and I'll scan in those pages out of the helms manual.
