well if it has an EX cluster, and a D series motor, my money is on it being an EX. If your buddy works at the DMV why don't you just have him run the VIN?

http://www.Carfax.com Put the vin in on that site too... doesnt give you loss reports unless you pay but it tells you the exact model of the car.

just look at the vin....ej8 = ex
Its probably an EX because swapping around the dash is a TON of work...not many people will bother with that

Check the firewall for the VIN if there is one.

All other VINs could always be swapped out, but I the chances he would replace the firewall/front clip are rare.

Oh and selling it for more is pretty gay even though 6k for a "EM1" isn't bad. But this car sounds sooooo sketchy so w.e

if it has a d series mototr than it is an ex... and you said that iit is a em1?? check to see if the motor says d17... because EM isnt a 99-2000 year... it is a 97-98 i think...

^ useless post.

well definitely check the VIN# on the firewall as well. since it has a salvage title, my thoughts would be that its an Si, but it got stolen and stripped. the guy found an EX, and stripped what he needed (engine, climate control, gauge cluster...). i think it could be possible to sell it for 6k if you clean it up nice. maybe more like 5k, but you never know. you did say highschool . well, goodluck if you choose to take it.

Learn before you say the wrong things online.

1:D17's are the 01+ Civics exc. Si
2:The original EM was the EM1(99-00 Civic Si) 2001 -05 Civic coupes are EM2, again exc. Si. That was EP3

All points lead to the car being an EX. I would check the VIN on the firewall. If it's gone, walk away

I hate having to do this for the 100,000th time but when you give misinformation...

EM1 aka USDM (possibly also in Canada I forget) 99-00 Civic Si came with a B16A2 DOHC VTEC motor.

D17s (SOHC 1.7 VTEC engines) came in EM2s aka 2002-2005 Civic Exs

97-98 There was no Si and the chassis code for a Civic Ex is EJ8

Maybe he was broke? Or probably got stolen (salvage title) and just scrapped it all back together.

My friend's friend had a 4 door Integra with a D15B8. It was the weirdest/funniest thing I've ever seen lol

Stop saying what you THINK it is. Jesus people. The only way to tell with a car that has been THAT hacked up, is either the firewall vin# and/or the dash vin#.

EM1 = SI Chassis
EJ8 = EX Chassis

Its ******* ridiculous all the misinformation that gets put on this site by retards who think they know what theyre talking about.

Since it's salvage title, the entire dash might have been stolen, so that vin# might be wrong, so definately check the firewall. Couldve just been the SI climate control that was stolen, but in order for the 96-98 heater controls to work, they wouldve had to swap everything from under the dash to the 96-98 stuff (I know, I did it from 96-98 to 99-00 SI in my EJ8). Also, the rear disc swap is really common, so you cant just go off of that and state that it is an SI. Same with the D series motor. It couldve just been put in the SI chassis to get it running.

Misinformation

BTW.. ex's came with rear disc brakes.. check the vin.. it will goo something like

xxxem1xxxxxxxxxxx my title is like this.. after the first 3 letters its the chassis code
2hgeh2xxxxxxxxxxx- eh2 = 92-95 civic cx hatchback

i bet its an ex tho..... there would be no reason to put the ex cluster in there and the 96-98 heater controlls.. that would be damn pointless
