Looks like a switch to turn the car off in the event of a mishap(required to pass tech at almost all drag strips if you have battery relocated to cabin.) Definitely strange placement for just about anything though...

It's probably a battery kill used to comply with drag strip rules. It is required to be at the rear-most section of the car. So it's actually in the right place.

yup correct i have my battery relocated to the back...cause the past owner i bought the car from used to take it to the track and thats what that switch is for...... and all my wires are hidden in the motor bay!
