diffrences between z6 and y8 trannys?
I'm not sure about the internals or tranny but the Y8 has a higher compression then the Z6, thats why it's so popular to do a mini me (D16Z6 with D16Y8 head) setup. Sorry I couldn't help with the rest

There is a small difference. I believe its fourth and fifth gear. So small you will NEVER notice it, the Y8 is slightly shorter. Also, the Y8 trannies have steel forks, which makes it stronger and can take more abuse than the Z6. If I had a choice, I would pick the y8. If not, then don't stress over it and get either one.

I've had both a z6 and a y8 transmission and I couldn't tell a difference at all. I would get a y8 just because its probably going to have less miles on it. I have heard that the forks are stronger on the y8 as well.
