JDM SOHC ZC
so i did search and found some info but not what i am lookin for...
i might trade my 90 si hatch with d16a6 with chikara header, aem cai intake and aem cam gear... for a 90 ex sedan with jdm sohc zc non vtec with header and aem intake, i was wondering what motor is more reliable the zc or a6 and what one wouldnt be quicker...motor wize not dependin on what car they are in...
please dont dog on me, i know im a newbie

Honestly to do that would be a waste of your time. if the zc is not vtec the motors are so close to being the same its not even funny. personally i'd stick with the hatch. A) it being the lighter of the to and you make it even faster.

I say you do it...4 doors look better anyways.

in other words, dont trade. not worth it and will be waste of time.

I have a crx dx with a a6 in it and when i raced my friend with a "sohc"zc std hb I get him off the line most of the time but all in all the zc has the top end. BOTH cars has i/h/e. The only diff between the a6 and zc is the cam. They both have the same bore and stroke.

No no no, the your a6 in stock form is putting out 108 hp, while the sohc zc non vtec is pushing 120. Even though that doesn't seem like much they feel a lot faster and in stock they will smoke any d series. Because it doesnt have vtec so your not only getting that power when the vtec kicks in. Its through out the whole power band. So its basically up to you but i got a zc in my rex and its fun.
The SOHC ZC does not have same pistons as the DOHC ZC(higher compression) Pistons.
We've taken apart many SOHC ZC blocks and they dont have high compression pistons in them. If there are some out there with the high compression pistons, there maybe some, but not all.
As far as upgrades, the A6 has many choices on camshafts, so there is potential in that motor to make it fast.
On headwork and camshaft with bolt ons, we can get the A6 to make 135-145hp to the wheels. Thats a 40-50hp gain over stock to the flywheel. With higher compression, you can get it into the 165-175hp range to the wheels.

yeah, cams are different, but pistons are the same.
you also need to differentiate between the MPFI SOHC ZC and the Carbed SOHC ZC. the carbed ZC has weird timing difference, while MPFI is just slightly large lift than A6. but thats where the extra power is coming from (other than the ECU possibly). youll be able to tell by the extra funny looking mechanical fuel pump lobe at the distributor end of the cam.
