kyb agx shocks
hey guys, i've had my car for about 2 months and im gonna upgrade my stock suspension since the previous owner cut the springs.. i think imma go with the agx since the cars gonna be mostly for street anyway dont think i'll be doing any autox.. wheres the cheapest place i can find them for a 94 LS. thanks
You should also buy a real set of lowering springs. Cutting springs causes the spring rates to be different from side to side. It also makes the springs much stiffer than normal. The mild valving of KYB shocks may still not be enough to handle the stiff cut springs resulting in excessive bouncing down the road. The extra money you spend on good quality springs will make all the difference...

coilovers is a vauge term, and it's hard to understand exactly what your asking.
Usually when people say "coil-over", it means one of two things:
- Threaded body Damper that gives you ride height adjustability
- Threaded body sleeve that slides over OEM style dampers & gives you height adjustability
What exactly are you asking?

would getting those or just springs be the better choice

Usually they are the same length, but have a large amount of close coils at one end that allow the spring to compress more at ride height.

Honestly, it's easier to get regular lowering springs since it is necessary to get a 4-wheel alignment EVERY time you alter your ride height. Also, regular lowering springs offer a more comfortable ride quality since they don't have to go so low. It shouldn't be too hard to find regular lowering springs that drop the car exactly how you want it.
If your looking for all-out performance, and you don't mind paying an extra $120, then the coil-over sleeves may be better for you (much stiffer though). Aside from the stiffer springs, another benefit is that you can keep adjusting them until you get ride height exactly where you want it. Then once you've got them set, you go get your alignment & leave it alone.
If you do decide to go the coil-over sleeve route, I suggest you buy new Ground-controls. They make the best stuff, back it up with a lifetime warranty, offer great customer service, eibach springs, easy to adjust sleeves, and top notch quality...

the shocks (agx in this case would provide a stiff ride right? since i they are adjustable with the stiffness 1-5 or whatever

Yes the illuminas have more than enough damping force for your usual lowering spring...
Mabey not enough for a stiffer coil-over sleeve lowering spring...

illuminas are plenty good enough for 400+lbs spring rates.
