Default S1 tranny wont shift into 5th or reverse (searched)

well I dropped my B16 in, but had the linkage attached to the motor/trans. When I was lowering the motor in I forgot to move the linkage, so I lowered the motor onto the linkage. The linkage was bent on the end a little bit, so I straightened it out. But no luck, I spend a few hours trying to rebend the linkage to hit 5th and reverse, but no luck still.

The motor was in a different EF and shifted fine and everthing.

Try disconnecting the linkage from the shifter and manual shifting it into 5th/reverse. If shifts that way fine then you prolly gotta adjust your shift linkage some more.

sorry guys, no answer was found.

As for trying it with no linkage attached; I did and I don't think it is clicking into gear. It moves in the direction the gear should be but I don't think its engaging.

sounds like a bad shift fork.

Does that require removing the whole tranny from the car?

Replacing the shift forks requires disassembly of the transmission, so yeah, it's got to come out.

I also had the problem with the 5th and reverse.. It was very difficult to go into 5th and would not go into reverse.. I took my tranny to get rebuilt and they said it was the shift fork.. It was replaced and everything was fine...

With the same tranny a few years later, I had the same problem with my 1st and 2nd gears so i took it to get torn down and checked out... they said everything looked good so I put the tranny back in and after bending the shift linkage to the correct position the problem was gone...

Try swapping out the shift linkage with a known good linkage and if it doesnt fix that take it to get rebuilt and if it needs to be rebuilt, you might as well throw in a 4.785 FD and Quaife.....
