Default Type R Runs, But Not good Enough... Suggestions??

Yo wuts up... hows it going motor heads... ok i have a 97 type r in an obd1 del sol... its all stock, all i have is an injen intake... stock exhaust and cat... stock everyything but motor (obviously) and intake and chipped p28... well the motor pulls its got lots of torque on bottom end... but between 6000-7000 rpms it loses its pull and its just sorta bogging... then when it gets to around 7500-9000 it pulls hella hard... any suggestions on what i could do to improve the bogging between 6 and 7k? I was thinking an aftermarket fuel rail might do the job... i dont want anything crazy... nothing way expensive... its my daily driver, and im not trying to own a gas guzzler... pls any advice would be great. thx.

how about a new fuel pump. dont think youll need a aftermarket fuel rail. maybe check the timing. those are my suggestions. i may be way off but maybe your just not getting enough fuel

nah nothings has been touched with vtec... vtec pulls extremely hard (as far as a stock type r goes) the motor has really low miles... my timing isnt exact, but its not retarded, its slightly advanced, its about 16 tho... but it seems like its just not getting the gas it needs.. wouldnt fuel rail be as good as a fuel pump, ive been using this del sol si fuel pump on my gsr, and it ran great... but i never upgraded to know the difference, is it possible to upgrade to a 94 gsr fuel pump or what?? thx

Gsr fuel pump would suffice. There was a thread on fuel pumps the other day. Sounds like the car is having problems with the vtec engagement/switch over. Might have something to do with your solenoid and chipped ecu.

the best way would be to get it on a dyno with a wideband. you could start with a vafc and see what's happening.

if you think it's not getting fuel at 6k why is it getting all that it needs at 8k?? i don't think a fuel pump or anything will help, it's probably something in your ecu's map.

yeah i was iffy about running a chipped p28, i had a usdm dohc del sol ecu in there, p30... but it didnt run so well. maybe a jdm b16 ecu would be more appropriate. with the vafc, can i control the fuel... like make it give more fuel at certain rpm's?? that would be cool, either that or a fuel rail?

the stock exhaust will take a huge % of your power. I had a type r in my hatch and when I took the stock exhaust off the difference was night and day. make sure you use 93/94 octane gas. I would tend to belive that your chipped ecu is junk. try to rechip the ecu if thats not it, change the fuel pump because it could be under to much load.

it is cause you have a stock exhaust on a type r motor. it has a lot of restriction. i had a built ls vtec and when i put on my stock exhaust if felt like i was driving a stock gsr after.

which chip are you using?
My bet would be the chip is what's killing you.
Switch to Crome and have it tuned, you'll be much happier with it that way.

you might have been joking, but i'm not, should have kept the d. the $1000 i spent on a turbo will wax that $4000 dollar swap's ***.

as far as the hype-r motor in your car, have you gone through the basics: cel, distributor{which one are you useing? obd2 type-r, obd1 b series, getto-rigged d-series?} you also said the timing is advanced, is it advanced on the cam/cams or on the distributor? advanced timing could cause an increase in low end power and a decrease in topend power.

p.s. don't get mad at me because i'm a noob. i've been waxing b-series *** longer than i've had e-mail.

try some engine management: hondata, aem ems , i use chrome

or you could dip your chip in some salsa, it might be good.

yooo um yeah the motor is low a quart of oil, its been parked i just checked it. so that could be big difference, without enough oil for the o.p. its going to lag like a d series. i bought this ecu from phearable.net its ran good so far... so everyone when u took off the stock exhaust, what did u swap it with...? i have enough tickets i cant afford another exhaust ticket and ref appt. what is a stock looking muffler i could put on there to fix this problem? my old gsr in the sol never had the problem with stock exhaust... and its all stock del sol si piping as well...

Exhaust filter huh? Not to step on the toes of this thread or anything, but everybody aside from Bense in here is ******* retarded.

Your B18C5 is running oddly because you're using some hack-*** ECU instead of a Type-R ECU. The fact that you suggested a fuel rail as a solution means that you're a complete douchebag idiot.

Man, I love taking my shitty days out on morons on the INTARWEB!

haha ya nice one "exhaust filter" lol

i agree with the the fact that you need a better exhast but thats not ur problem. get ur car dyno tuned, get a new chip or just get a type R ecu and u should be fine.

nah my motor is obd1, the type r ECU will be a no go... im not going to convert my car over to obd2 either... waste of money. um it doesnt bog extremely just quite a bit... loses its top end power, i think some bigger piping would definitely help, theres a lot of restriction going on right now... and if i had a fuel rail with the regulator and gauge on there i could pump a lil more psi to get me through the lag. the ecu is good though... nothing wrong with it... it was chipped with a type r program, vtec engages 5700 like type r, redlines at 8400 like type r... its pretty cool..
