Default need some honest opinions

I know this is a honda site and a ef area, but shoot me straight on this. I love ef hatches and there hard to find in the midwest in good shape. My freinds mom wants to sell me hers. The car has no rust. The only downfall is its a standard car. No air no power anything and a 4 speed. Its red of course. I cant decide if i want it or not. I like it and it runs decent and she wants 1500 for it. Im offering her 1200.00 if i buy it.

The only reason im even looking at it is my daily driver a 91 sentra ser just got totaled. It was way more powerful then the standard. It had all the bolt ons and due to the torque of the sr20 would even give healthy b16s a run. Im waiting on a settlement and i need a commuter. I know alot of you will say buy it and due a swap. Ive never tackled this kind of swap and dont know if i could. I hate paying for labor to. Give me some advice. Thanks in advance

hell ya if you can find a rust free hatch w/ a straight body theres no doubt about it ****** it, and about a swap you'll figure it out. it's not that complicated EF swaps have been getting done for years. if you need help i can talk you through it.

My 92 SE-R was totaled also. But then I got a 89 CRX. I have to say, the CRX edged out the SE-R in total owner satisfaction. Stock for stock the CRX was hair slower in acceleration but completely outhandled the SE-R.

A standard hatch can be greatly improved with Si spec parts for very cheap.

welcome to exactly what i'm doing. i picked up a 5 speed si tranny for $100, a d16a6 block for $115, a d16a6 head for $135, a d16a1 (86-89 integra) throttle body at the junkyard for 25$, and all i need now is a d16a6 valve cover and intake manifold which can be had for cheap.

Thanks guys alot. Really. This sounds weird but i get real attached to my cars and the ser was my baby. I have always loved ef hatches and eg. Ive owned 3 ef and one eg. I always had the base model because in the mid 90s they were plentiful and cheap. I didnt mind it was slow. A quick questioin will another readily available honda tranny bolt right up to the motor in the little hatch? Its a 1.5 right? What is the engine code? I have a settlement coming and ill probaly do the b16 swap eventually. I have a friend that could help. He has a 11 second geo metro convert. Dont laugh its fast as hell and weighs 1300 lbs. I cant find a decent si now that im 36 and have some extra funds. Sorry about the noob questions. Bare with me for 6 years i been living and breathing nissan.

i also like my crx more then the se-r i owned. and i had a LOT of fun in that car. the hatch is definately going to need a swap of some kind to be as much fun, but once you realize that bump/snap oversteer, suspensions you can't easilly do anything (productive) to, and non-existent post-80k mile 5th gears are a thing of the past, you'll be hooked.

you'll still have a very purposeful car that skips all the fluff and puts the money where it matters, just not quite as "straight out of the box" as the se-r. hopefully i was able to slip that small "purist" argument under the door.

but you'll still miss it.

well if it's a dx, it's going to come with a d15b2. and five speed tranny. the standards (std) has a 4 speed tranny.

my d16a6 head just came in the mail yesterday!!!! haha. i can't wait to build this bitch.

Its a standard. I found out the code. D15b1. I would like to slip on the si tranny if possible. I dont know about putting in the b16 since it will be a dd. I was thinking more like the sohc from the mid 90s ex. Plenty of punch for me

i have a standerd hatch and i just got done doing a b16 swap....... i love it. if ur worried about expense i would say go with the jdm d15b they are a decent little motor.... a kid around here is boosted at 6psi on a jdm d15b, it is a 13 sec. car 200hp. not to bad in my opinon but its all on how much u want to spend

Well i got some good news today. I brought the car home. And the insurance adjuster finaly called for my ser sentra. They are giving me 2500.00 bucks for the car. Thats way more then i was thinking. Im just going to buy some nice 15 inch rims and some neuspeed/hr springs and buy some stuff to tighten up the car suspension. Im a handling guy they ill work towards the motor when the big settlement comes in.
