Best insulated hard top for summer
whats the best hardtop out there with the most insulation...arizona summers have just started and i've been considering a hardtop to keep the temp down a bit

Buy a Mugen CF top, then spray it with a layer of foam insulation, then cover it with leather. Don't laugh. I seriously want to do it.

i hope you are not talking about the home depot stuff-it foam spray because they are flameable and they disintergrate under prolong heat

i think soft top is a better choice because:
when you first get in the car after it being left in the sun for a few hours...its too hot to touch anything. heat rises so the first thing i do is pop the top and the heat dissapates in about 30 seconds. after that i hit the a/c on full blast and put the top up. the a/c is so good that i only leave it on medium-low for a few minutes because im freezing.
if that doesn't sound good... oem

I was thinking of doing the same, except with that Dynomat stuff for sound insulation. Probably would help with heat/cold, as well.

dynomat is fairly heavy.

Composites are better at radiating heat as opposed to aluminum (OEM). My interior didn't get as hot running the mugen cf top compared to the oem. Don't have temp readings before or after but I never forget my track and auto-x days running both tops.

People put Cusco "cages" in their cars...so, what's the difference?
OEM will work. I certainly wouldn't buy a $5500 Mugen top for insulation.

Thank you.
I don't even see how you could put insulation and Mugen hardtop in the same sentence.

i'm getting the regular FRP mugen top and getting the inside lined.... I'm doing this for the sole purpose of making it look more of a coupe when inside the car... having a fully lined top will give it that illusion...

hehe, if you buy a $5500 top to run cooler temps in the summer, you got some cash to burn but either way, remember that composites will have better heat radiation properties than metal alloy based panels.

That's gonna be clean. Do insulation, then have it upholstered with similar blue leather as your interior.
