Default found a 97 DX hatch, but it has a d16y8 in it...

Someone traded in a 97 dx hatch where I work. it has obviously been modded. bodykit, wheels, etc.

I looked at the engine code and is says d16y8, but it still has the dx or cx manifold on it. you can see where the wiring harness has been spliced into in a number of places. Probably from other parts that were removed.

What motor is supposed to be in this car? and if it was really a cx, what motor would be in that car?

I am trying to figure out if it would be worth my time to buy the car. I'll post motor pics later this afternoon, but any help would be appreciated.

This isn't an actual picture, but it looks just like this. the one I am lookng at has a cheap intake pipe on it.

the D16Y7 is slow but gets good mileage. I think the D16Y8 is a nice alternative, given it should have VTEC?

As long as the one you're looking at has an Intake Mani where that last airbox is before the head, its a whole D16Y8.

Well, they wanted more than twice what I was willing to pay for it, but here are the pics for you to look at. Why did he use that manifold? Did some of the Y8's come with that?

you'll need to click on the pics to see larger images.

He just used his stock mani, I bet he just bought a long block from someone with out any manifolds! And used his stock ones! He had to save up for that bodykit....he had to make sacrafices somewhere!

Hah, using the restrictive manifolds on the y7 probably cut him out 15 ******* horsepower

That's funny, and yes the EJ6 (The 96-00 hatch) comes only in DX and CX, both equipped with a D16y7. The EX came with the D16y8 which is the SOHC VTEC engine.

Just go out, spend $100 and get the better manifolds
