Default Automatic transmission Fluid

I have a 1997 Accord LX V6 (Automatic).
I bought the car used with 146k on it and I would like to change the transmission fluid. The owners manual says I could use Honda ATF or Dextron II,III,etc.
I have a Haynes Manual and it specifically says use Honda ATF on 1997, but the 1994-1996 years use Dextron II or Honda ATF.

Which is right?

And where do I get Honda ATF without bending over the parts counter at a dealership. I don't think I've ever seen it at a auto parts store (special order?)

For best results in a Honda ALWAYS use Honda ATF-Z1. Good job on actually reading the manuals though!

werd, it's good to know my wife's car can take the aftermarket mercon-dexron fluid.

the only honda-approved fluid i've seen @ parts stores was the power steering fluid by bardahl
