Skunk2 Coilovers with KYB AGX
The S2s are inherantly bouncy and harsh, and using the AGXs will probably make the ride that much worse, as they were not meant to be used with such stiff springs.
i currently have this set-up and i'm not liking it.
Like the previous post said, the spring rates are rediculously high so they don't match well with the overal soft damping characteristics of the AGX shocks. Setting the shocks to Maximum helps balance out spring load/damping a little. But still, the ride is very harsh for L.A. freeways. Local street cruising is tolerable until you hit some uneven pavement. One thing i do like about this set-up is when going at higher speeds (75+mph), you get a very nice feel of the road. I think the AGX shocks would go great with some soft Cusco or Eibach springs or some custom soft spring rates Ground Control Coilovers. Overall, bad combo shocks/coilver that i chose. i wouldn't recommend this setup for daily driving at all !

I hate my setup as well...I"m looking to change to something different. I've been supporting the skunk 2's with AGX's for about 3 years. I'm tired of the harsh ride and my 1/4 miles days are over/limited. I'm wanting a softer ride but good performance as well. Still looking for a good setup
yeah I'm thinking they are toast too...going to sell them with the skunk 2's but let them know they are 3 years old and may need replacing soon/now. I have 17" wheels and I don't want them tucked...just want the top of the tires to meet the fenders.....so going from adjustable coils to springs is a little frightening...but I want a nice ride lol
btw, this goes for all those GC wannabe's like skunk2, omni and all those ebay $30 kits that offer the same spring rates that are way too stiff for anything useful, for any chassis.
if you want an adjustable spring kit, get GC. most dont need adjustable springs anyway.

skunk2 springs probably destroyed those agx.</TD></TR></TABLE>
I concur. My AGXs were completely destroyed in 20K mi after pairing them up with Eibach Pro-Kits. Now I run them with Konis in the winter (GC and Koni in the summer), and they're great.

So it looks like if I want to be able to fine tune my ride height and get a smoother ride than my skunk 2 AGX combo I need to go with the Ground control kit with X brand struts....Koni any else? Anyone have a list of the spring rates of the skunk 2 and the ground control...I remember seeing a list but couldnt' find it on here
Anything is going to ride harsh with the S2s, even the Konis. The difference is that the Konis will be able to handle the springrate, give you proper damping and not self destruct with them.
If you don't have the money for a good set of dampers, don't do anything at all. You'll end up spending the money in the end, and wasting however much you spent cheaping out on the suspension in the first place. I can't stress that enough. I've done it, others in this thread have done it, and I see it happen all the time.
Get a good set of dampers (Koni red or yellow, Tokico illuminas) first. Then buy a quality spring (Eibach, H&R) or GCs after. Reds probably aren't the best match for the GCs, so plan ahead if you are going to be getting coilovers.
If you just want to look all JDM low in the parking lot at school, just buy any cheap eBay junk or GC knockoff stuff that you can afford.

Yeah I pretty much decided on the GC coilovers. They will alow me to dial in the exact ride height that I want. As far as dampers probably going to go with the Koni ones...now I see you didn't mention either the KYB's... One last question. I have yet to had some sway bars to my hatch. I was looking at the Suspension Techiniques for the front and rear. I have read about subframe enforcement pieces. How do Sway bars affect ride quality?

I wouldn't reccommend them with GCs; actually at all for that matter. I've had them and they were pretty poor quality.

I'd ride around with the GCs for a while, then use sways as a way to fine tune the suspension after you get used to the handling. As far as reinforcement, what chassis do you have?

98 civic hatchback w/ a GSR swap...I was just curious if the sway bars were going to stiffen the ride even more. I don't want to increase my body roll with softer coils so I figured a nice set of sway bars would compensate well. /shrug

If peeps made like 350/250# sleeves for like $150 I'd be all over them...the cheapest it can be done for is like $250 with Hypercoil springs and sleeves. Sucks.
