Default Clutch Question

The previous owner of my car installed an ACT extreme duty pressure place with street/strip disk but didnt resurface the flywheel when he installed it. When the pedal is slightly depressed while driving a pulsing feeling can be felt wich im assuming is just from the unsurfaced flywheel.I pulled the disk and pressure plate out last night and my question is this: could not resurfacing the flywheel have caused damage to my pressure plate? I'm asking because it appears the disk made made more contact with one part of the pressure place than the rest.

not resurfacing the flywheel is one of the worse things that you can do when installing a new clutch, and i assume it was new when he installed it....but not resurfacing the flywheel can cause the disc not not seat correctly with the pressure plate and flywheel resulting in shorter life of clutch assembly. and the maximum performance of the clutch will also be sacrificed. like faster wear of disc or slippage ect... basicly you should either get a whole new clutch assembly with a new flywheel, or get a new clutch assembly and RESURFACE the flywheel. not saying you wouldnt but you never know.... but it is more than likly that the disc has come into contact with a more smoother part of the assembly (pressure plate) and not so much the flywheel.

when you say "clutch assembly" are you saying it would be ok to install a new disk and resurface the flywheel, or do i need a whole new disk and pressure plate...

it depends on how the disc seated on the pressure plate side. if the pressure plate looks on and the forks are ok and all, then it should be ok to just refurface the flywheel and use the pressure plate.... also get new pilot bearing and throw out bearing.

was there any unnatural wear on the pressure plate or the flywheel? sometimes you can find aftermarket flywheels for cheap, if you are interested in going that route

this is my whole point. i think there is un-natural wear on the pressure plate, at least thats what it appears to be. theres like heat checks like you would see on a brake disk that got way to hot, but they are only on one side. i got a new flywheel.

well that could be from the previous owner not knowing how to drive, pressure plate and disc getting hot creating heat spots on the pressure plate or flywheel, also could be from the flywheel not seating correctly and slipping and getting hot and forming heat spots

most definitly, as long as there arent any surface rust on the disc side of the pressure plate or any chunks taken out of it, or anything to act as a adbrasive to the disc then u will be fine. otherwise it will kill the disc quickly but you should be fine
