Hey guys n gals!
Im currently researching exact bearing colors that need to go into the block.
Ive taken the block apart and found that the oem rods have number stamped on them which make up halve of the size they need respectively, in conjuction with the cranck codes. The OEM bearings didnt have any color on them whatsoever, they faded away, I guess thats something something 100.xxx miles will do!!
If ive done my research right then the codes on the rods can be thrown out of the window when replacing them with aftermarket rods right???
Ive been told that the aftermarket rods will all be green sized and that I only need the crank codes to determine the right bearing color?????
Ok, the real question is what bearings do I need in the end for a crank with the following codes:
cyl 1 - C4
cyl 2 - D4
cyl 3 - C4
cyl 4 - C5
I hope this makes any sense and that my information is complete.............please feel free to chime in if my initial research is wrong also!!!!
Block is sitting at a friends garage and I can get any other details you may need to help me..............
Thanks in advance
Mervin

Plastiguage and helms is what you need. Unless you use Eagle rods which I know for a fact have the same big end bore as stock rods, then you just use the same bearings.
Do yourself a favor and get the crank micropolished, and balanced with the rods.
Don't listen to anybody who says otherwise its the best investment for a high revving bottom end.
Goodluck. Other brands may also be the same big end bore as stock rods, I don't know I use the eagle 900hp rods with no problems(boosted b16 revving to 9500).

Thx for the response!
Well I live in Suriname, South America and there arent any high tech motor builders, shops in my region (not even a dyno for that matter).
I alreay took apart the block to check on the colors..........now codes, and just need some reassurance on what sizes to order since I will be importing them myself.................the local Honda dealer never sold Preludes so he doesnt even have literature or specs on the engine, let alone parts............grrrrrrrrr
I just want to be sure that the colors Im gonna be ordering will be right...............whattabout ACL???
Heard that they will fit, but you will loose some reliability and strenghth since the specs will be a bit looser (or too tight..)
I hope someone on here can help me!!!!!
Merv
PS, I will be using eagle rods

what are the bearing codes, what engine are you building. PM me the information, I can get you the color codes and make sure you have the right bearings.
You can use ACL but like you said you will lose some reliability. Honda has 5 bearing colors. ACL only has 3 sizes.
Cylinder 1 you need:BLACK
Cylinder 2 you need:BLUE
Cylinder 3 you need:BLACK
Cylinder 4 you need:???? I dont understand how you have C5, that looks like a typo.
LMK.

Why does everyone insist that because ACL doesn't have a zillion different bearing sizes that they are any less reliable than OEM? If you put it together right you won't have a problem with reliability either way.

Motormouth: thx for the response!!!!
The motor Im building is a 95 USDM H22A1
Building the entire bottom end with
JE 9:1 cr pistons
Eagle rods
New bearings
OEM headgasket
This all for a Garrett T3/T4 - .48/.68 turbo.............
Ill look up the code for cyl 4 again and post tomorrow it might be a typo since the codes are bearely readable, theyre stemped in very naro black lettering and the crank taps are goldisch-brown, so, ill recheck ait just to be sure.
Also, the oem rods that were on the crank all had codes but one........I found that strange also, the first three were 2, 3, 4 and the last one didnt have any code.......(the numbers that divide when you take the rod-end off.........
Anyway (K24em2), I would like to go OEM, just because they have better/wider clearance choices and durability is PROVEN!!!!!!!
One more thing, the Haynes manual stated 7 colors, with green being the middle sized.................I dont know if this is also true for the H22 (the Haynes was for another honda model.....)

Sorry for the long wait...........
Ive gone by and checked the cyl crank tap, it does have C5 stamped on it...........all the stamps are in like fine black lettering..............
On the first tap (cyl 1) theres also C3 stamped in very thick ink.......
I doubt that taking a pic will reval the smaaler stamps, but I could try............
pls lmk if this make any sense!!!!

Wrong, eagle rods do not have the same big end bore as stock honda rods. Eagle rods are sized at a honda 3, honda rods are sized 1-4.
Acl bearings are ok if you are within spec. I prefer to use honda bearings on all my personal and customer builds, its alot easier to get the clearances you want.
To the original poster, your best bet Is to get a helms manual for your vehicle, it will explain every detail you need.

I guess I just got lucky, I've rebuilt 4 B series blocks, all have had number 3's
