Car is a d16a6 obd0 brand new engine with some internal work done to it
I thought it just sounded choppy at idle but when I drove it yesterday it sounded like a bike
Well just now I pulled the spark plugs one by one and 2-4 almost cause the engine to stall out and die, pulled the #1 plug and nothing happened
<FONT SIZE="20">BUT</FONT>
When I was slipping it back in I heard the engine noise grow, clicked it into place and it went back to stutterring
So I pulled it back out a bit, maybe 3/4" and the cylinder starts firing!!!
WTF
So I put in a set of known good magencore wires and it did the same thing, you cna pull it out a bit and the motor sounds mint, sounds perfect, plug it into place and the cylinder stops firing, for 2 sets of wires
WTF would cause this?
I'll post a video in a second

The dist is throwing a mint spark, can hold the plug to the valve cover and watch it arch, it just only will ignite the cylinder at one point when the plug wire is pulled back about 1" form the top of the valve cover
WTF would cause that

How the hell would oil get into the hole? Any why would it only fire when I do this?

The valve cover could be leaking oil on top of the spark plug insulator and shorting out the spark plug lead a possibilty or the insulator on the plug is cracked.
Thank you very much sir I will switch around the plugs and try a new valve cover and lok for leaks right now

is your firing order correct? civic firing order is 1-3-4-2 starting at the top of the dizzy going clockwise and the engine is labelled 1-2-3-4 starting from driver side going to passenger side.
From the 2nd video, it looks like the wire is grounding out. Maybe the clip in the wire is blown out and its riding down the plug and not making contact? Try a diffierent wire!
Even when #1 would kick in with the wire like that the motor sounds like its in pretty bad shape. maybe its just the sound or is there alof of motor noise?

For reference, I changed all four spark plugs and gapped them properly and cleaned of my spark plug wire grommets (underside of valve cover) and the problem cleared right up ran mint
