Hankook RS-2 vs. Azenis RT-615
Has anyone run both on their car. I have heard so much hype about the Hankook's when they were released, but then really nothing since. Is anyone using them, how are they compared with the RT-615's.
Reason I'm asking is they come in the sizes I want to get, and they are even a little cheaper. Thanks in advace guys!!

I am using them on the STX Type-R, they are very good so far. I will be using them in Peru so i will see how they do there (and me since this will be my first national event). We went with the Hankooks cause of the price savings and so far it paid off with the car finishing 1st and 3rd out of 36 cars on it's first autocross.
At the last autocross i was at we kinda did a back to back comparison on two 2006 Si one with Flakens and the other was using Hankooks, the only difference was that the Hankooks were on 17x8 rims while the Falkens were on the stock Si rims (cars were stock besided the wheels and tires). The driver of the test said the Hankooks had less understeer on this track and as a result his unoffical time was faster (unoffical time cause this was a end of day "free" run that the comparison was used")

Hmmm interesting. See here's what I would like to do, I am running 205/50x15 RT-615's on the front and rear right now on a 15x7 wheel. I'd like to be running a 225 in the front, and I think it would really bring the car in nice.
Hankook sells a 225/45x15 I would run in the front, and a 205/50x15 I'd use in the rear. It couldn't work out any better.
Well I'm gonna wait to hear from a few others and see what happens. Worst case, I'll just get the wider ones for the front and if I don't like them just get rid of those.
Thanks for the reply,

I think the Falkens have proven to be the faster of the 2 tires. How many good drivers are running Hankook's at national events? --> none that I know of. How many are running Falkens? ---> A lot.

How wide are the stock wheels? I'm not up on my 2006 Civic Si wheel widths, I would assume a 6.5" or 7" wheel width. So the Hankook is going to have a wider contact patch, and less flex in the sidewall --> which is the big downfall of the RT-615.

I think that's because of the pricing of the Falken Azenis RT-615. When the new Azenis RT-615 was first introduced to replace the old Azenis RT-215, people were up in arms because the new one was so much more expensive than the old (e.g. $92 vs $74 in 205/50-15 at Vulcan). People were looking for alternatives, and the Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212 was less expensive at that time and performed decently, although not quite at the level of the Azenis. So some people were buying the Z212. I'm guessing this hurt Azenis sales, because Falken lowered prices across the board this past January (to $78, now $77 at Vulcan). Now, it seems like there isn't much reason to buy the Z212, since the Azenis is similarly priced and performs better.
If you're looking for a direct comparison of the two, have you seen the article in last year's Grassroots Motorsport?

The Kooks are comparable to the Azenis. Just like everyone saying the Azenis is better than the MX...but why was the MX on the winning car and the runner up if the Azenis are "better"....
Best thing to do is simply run them and find out.

I was also going to use that argument, but I think those top 2 drivers are just really that good. I may give them a whirl and see what happens.

How does pointing to one event that was run in constantly changing weather conditions provide evidence for any tire?

Yeah you're right. It just makes my arguement even stronger because the MX's REALLY suck in the rain.
If these tires really are that much better, those guys would be using them. Contingency money isn't exactly a whole lot of cash.
They might as well have used Ziex 512's then
, because they are that good.
They still need a very good tire to win.

The fastest car at nationals last year was on RT-615's, he was protested for an illegal header on Day 1. They modified the header at a local shop to be legal, then came back and beat everyone again.

Right, then came back, was legal...and won again... but he lost.

Again, looking at the results from one event... really not indicative of anything.
K.MO could probably drive on 4 flat tires and embarass alot of good drivers, same with Kevin, that's a reason I went to a nice "easy" class like C-stock.
And Contingency makes a huge difference: if my girlfriend hadn't managed to collect $500 in the last 2 tours stops, I'm not sure we could have afforded to make it to the Mineral Wells Pro. Anything to offset the cost of travel, food, room, board, and trips to BD's.
[EDIT]Hankook offered contingency money... and no one ran them in STS, what does that say? I think Hankook won STXL and that was it.

My info is based on the comparison between the RT-215's 205/50-15 and Hankook's 215/45-16.
I've been running the Hankook's in STS class in SoCal on a GS-R, heavy car, this past season compared to the Falkens last season.
- Turn in is very good.
- Steady state sweepers the car tends to slide more.
- Initial breaking is again very good but after this "braking feel" seems to go away
- Tires do not overheat towards the end of a run
- Tires tend to stick better with lower air pressure which causes the tire not to be very responsive during transitions.
Hopes this helps.

I cant compare to Azenis as Ive never owned any but Ill say this. I run the Hankooks in the 225/45/16 size on an Accord (~2900lbs). Of course its a "good" tire but it does have a few faults IMO. The sidewall seems a bit soft for this purpose built tire but at the same time I dont find a lot of grip at the higher pressures (I run 41F/42R). My main gripe though is...
-Useless once they get hot. And by hot I mean the end of 1 run on a 80 degree day. This may not be the case for you civics/integras...Im heavier than you but bring the sprayer just in case.
