im aware of that, but this would involve getting an IE. AEM ems correct? or is there a (more cost effective) way to tune?

Jack had it for about a month. But how much of that was actual tuning im not sure, you'd have to ask him. But I didn't need the car for a while so I left the car and parts with him so he could install/tune/compare everything at his pace, and do what he wanted. I do know, when using the EMS, certain issues need dealt with like the cold/hot startups, street driving/tuning, and minor bugs here and there that need worked out.

The startup and part-throttle response are the two major tuning bugs for the 1st gen EMS. It has been slightly revised, but the startup problem is too common.

My HKS has 48mm primaries, and 65mm collector. Not much difference. It makes my car sound like a WRX with no cats. Seriously.
