Synthetic Oil Change Question
Hi guys, have a b16 just doing a synthetic oil change.
Been running with Castrol 10w30 and changing to synthetic, just wanted to know what you guys do to clean everything out before you put new oil in.

-add some sea foam in your engine 10-20 miles before doing an oil change.
-do the oil change.
-do the oil change again at 1500 after switching to synthetic.
-continue with regular oil change intervals with synthetic.
thats what i did when switching to synthetic. i never used any other kind of automotive additive or cleaner other than sea foam. it can be used in the gas tank, injection, and crankcase. there are alot of people who recommend sea foam and some who dont, but i do.

when i swiched to synthetic i just let the old oil drain for like 45 minutes, and did the same thing on the next oil change. probably didnt do much good but i wanted to get as much conventional oil out as possible.

By the way, I hate seafoam. Why, search and you will see the problems </TD></TR></TABLE>
yeah just drain and put in the new stuff, or if you want to clean out the motor before you put it in run some marvel mystery oil in it for a couple hundred miles thats what the local honda dealer uses for cars brought back on lease before they sell them. cleans out all the old gunk from the asshats going 10,000 miles on an oil change cause the car is leased

There's no need to do anything special when going from conventional oil to synthetic. Just change it. Although you don't want to mix conventional oil with synthetic in large quantites, the relkatively small amount of old oil that is already in there is not going to cause a problem.

FYI.. Castrol Syntec is not a synthetic oil.. just a highly refined dino.
If you want to run a good FULL synthetic, run Castrol 0w-30, and make sure it says "Made in Germany" on the back of the bottle. It is excellent oil.
