Default Richmond 4.57 gear install impressions

2003 AP1

Sorry no pics other than the initial gear pattern before changing out the thrust washer and such....

Real quick:

unit is a little louder than stock, but not bad at all
yellow box was used to bring the speedo into spec (was 11%ish off)
stock B-lash is .004ish, Richmond calls for .008-.010
No doubt brings the car to life yet doesn't rev out too high on the interstate

The car already had a 3.14 thrust and from the pic below you can see it was too deep, ended up with a 3.08

Just got my 4.57 as well, swapping this weekend.

How does the yellowbox work? I have Modifry's Yellow Jacket (he's local), and from my calculations I should have the setting at 21 (10~10.5% off).

The 4.57's or 4.77's will be my next mod

How much did you spend on the entire setup excluding install

Honestly the only thing he re-uses is the Diff casing. There is nothing wrong with re-using that... even if the previous differential was beat to **** the casing is still fine.

I believe stock is around 4000ish? With gears its around 4400-4500.. theres a program or calculator online in which you can input different ratios to find out what rpm you will be at during certain gears.

I swapped my whole diff with a local who sold me his used diff with the gears in it (he was going turbo) so it cost me 400 bux. Honestly this mod will probably push you back 1000+... less if you know how to install and maybe a little bit more if you get someone to do it for you.

do you know what your RPM is at 80 MPH in 6th gear?

does anyone have a before and after 1/4 #'s with the stock vs 4.57 thanx.

EDIT: from reading other posts

in 6th gear
4.57FD 80MPH @ 4700-4800
4.77FD 80MPH @ 5000-5100
