How I spent my weekend

If you see me reaching down and not shifting, it is because I'm sinching the seat belt down. After being in a car with full cage and harnesses for so long, having the stock 3 point felt a little loose to me.

Ah, you aren't missing much- it is just a lap at Willow Springs in the Si, only 100 miles past break in.
I need to figure out something with an external microphone. The car is so quiet, all you can hear is the wind, except coming out of turn 4, the slowest turn on the track.

Yeah, me, too. It sounded really nice from where I was sitting though.

It is a good experience, and you'll probably learn a lot from it. Make sure you go with a group that has a beginners group and offers in-car instruction. Then just listen to your instructor and have fun. Once you go, you'll be hooked. Check out http://drivenasafl.com/ for more info.

Yes, on the track you are required to have both windows down all the time for safety reasons. There's less glass flying around (if you roll) with them down.
I'm going to try and find a remote microphone or something for next time so I can reduce the wind noise. It is mostly because the car is so quiet. I never had this problem in the race car with open exhaust

thats cool. I've been lookin' for an autocross place or somewhere to drive. I just moved to LA a couple weeks ago and am just getting settled in. How often do they have open track time there? Admission fee? I'd definitely like to starting going to different places like once a month. Cool vid
The next event I'm going to is June 10-11 Buttonwillow Raceway. BW is right up the 5 freeway, probably about 2 hours for you. http://buttonwillowraceway.com (unfortunately it looks like their site is down right now) - use the Lerdo Highway exit and take a right. You can actually see the track from the freeway, but until I knew it was there I'd just breeze by.
If you want to enter, https://www.nasaproracing.com/...d=378, but if you want to just come up and check things out, it is a $10 gate fee the track charges, but you can come up and see all the Honda Challenge races. If you come up, PM me and I'll take you out in a session.
For autocross in SoCal, THE game in town is http://www.solo2.com/. The run mostly at California Speedway, which is kind of a long drive for me. I haven't run with them for a long time- since I went to UCLA and they ran down in Orange County.

yeah I work in Torrance and just found a new apartment in Marina Del Rey. Those two websites were the ones that I checked out when I first got here and I was really hoping there were places closer. talked to a friend that lives down in Huntington beach and he's been itchin' to take out his M3 but hasn't had anyone to go with. Maybe we can pick a date and get a little track day goin.
California Speedway is due east for you out the 10. I used to live in Venice, just up from you. There is nothing nearby- the closest road racing track is Willow Springs or Cal Speedway, probably about an hour or hour and a half. Same thing for autocrossing, although they used to run events at Hollywood Park which is right in your backyard comparatively. Of course, they are few and far between and always sell out early.
If you just want to get out on the track, and can go on a Friday, there are literally dozens of clubs you can go with, but I always have trouble going on a Friday because of work.

I used to go to a bunch of POC events, back when they were the only game in town, but I have been doing just NASA for a while because I think they are the best run events, and you can do hotlapping, and see real racing all in the same day.
