Default What do you do for security?

Okay I currently have two vehicles my 91 turbo crx which I love to death and my never fail 1986 diesel isuzu trooper which is my daily driver(had since I was 16) and gets 35mpg city..

I am really looking into getting a type-R but I am really concerned about getting it stolen...I don't drive my rex everyday because I cannot resist the boost..but I really would like something a little nicer than the the trooper and definitely a little faster..My wife wants me to buy something brand new like a M3 or EVO, mainly because she has a R32, and the fact that since I graduated from school I have now paid off every bill except for my mortgage so I have an extra 2500.00 every month but I am a die hard honda fan..not to mention my best friend has been a honda-tech for 10 years and gets me the hookup on parts..

So how many of you drive yours daily and what security options do you use and which ones do you think work?

#1 the car would be garaged
#2 live in DFW(dallas-ft worth)
#3 I will definitely get LOJACK installed

Boot it or lose it.

Good luck.

That sounds a little too extreme, are these cars really that prone to getting stolen?

or are you guys just super paranoid? not trying to make fun of anyone here

Well the main thing is that I want something:

reliable, quick, fun to drive, and looks good, easy to work on

if I buy another car, spend money on it and leave it in the garage like my crx, my wife will kill me..

my I should just by another vw..I do kind like the jetta gli's with the 1.8t

you should learn what's going on in your area, https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1618377

you should be very paranoid with the CRX... an ITR would make you go insane
-maybe upgrade the secruity system on your house, go ALL out on the secruity on your car, get a big dog, a gun and you'd be able to go to sleep a bit better
sell the CRX so that doesnt get stolen if its not in the garage

gl w/ the decision

The thing about a Type R is that even if you take all four wheels off and park it in your garage, there is still a good chance that it will be gone when you wake up.

my rex will not be going anywhere right now considering it does not have any pistons in it and if someone was stupid enough to break into my garage my neighbor is a trigger happy retired marine, I helped him rebuild his motor in his bronco couple years ago and since then if anyone even looks into my garage he bolts out of his house with his shotgun, he is the real deal "Full Metal Jacket"..

man I did not know about that...definitely a factor, well...I guess I am going to really have to think about this..maybe I will be like everyone else and just buy a nice car that I don't work on..instead of buying one to mod..

You live in DFW, not worth the hassle, all I can say is do not get it. They got professional dirtbag thieves around DFW area. Did you not see in DFW Classifieds that there were 2 00-01 Integra GSR's stolen, same day basically, and recovered same day (within 1 day). Both were stripped, from motor to interior. My friends car was one of them.

understand that for most of us, we view our cars on a different level than most. Not to say that others dont care for their cars or would hate to see them stolen, but when an ITR is stolen, its much more personal for many reasons that vary depending on the owner.

Is theft a primary issue to be concerned with when buying an ITR? Absolutely yes! There is no doubt in my mind that everything you want in a car is offered via the ITR, but it sounds as if the area in which you live would prevent you from enjoying the car in the manner you would choose to do so.

Best of luck with your decision, i hope we have all offered you helpful information!

This is a scary situation. US ITR owners live in fear of their R's gettin stolen every day!!!! That is a **** situation to be in Mine is locked in a garage with alarm and immobiler and Huge steering wheel lock but 'touch-wood' the type R isnt as highly regarded by thieves in the UK as it is in the US. I'd hate to be in that position

Get yourself a hatch with an ITR swap in it and don't tell anyone what's in it.

(That's my next car actually, hehe.)

chains is a for sure thing. #1 cars have been stolen out of garage's. Garage's aint all that great. 3# Lojack aint that great either. You cant have lojack if you have a check engine light. and cars do get stolen and diassappear with lojack. Envest in a good alarm. Design your own kill switch. Get chains and chain her down.

Your best security feature will be the lowest insurance deductible possible.

Well I live in the boonies now so I am not very afraid of at home problems if any arise me being an extremly light sleeper and my Mossberg 500 and my Glock G31 from the vantage point of my second story bedroom window almost directly above my car,I dont think a thief would have much of a chance. When I have to go into the city I use an Autolock.People on this site can make new ITR owners paranoid I was when I first got mine.My old roomate RainmanEK on this board had a point when he told me this,"if they really want your car they will get it"

Your best security, is not getting one. Thieves in DFW are pretty high.

3) well, there is no 3 but I just wanted to be cool and list three things.
