Buyin a s2k. any sugestions to things that are important to look for
So I have been driving around a eg hatch since 93 and the time has come where I cant do anything else to one and im ready to move on to the s2k. Any tips on what to look for when buying one would be great.

Take it to a dealer for a complete diagnostic, or have a knowledgeable friend come with you. Maybe someone local on this board could give you a hand.
Im looking to buy in California and im in B.C canada. The Canadian dollar and the price of a s2k in the states is what has made this a option for me. They have allways been overpriced here
- make sure the tranny shifts smooth...
- make sure their is no diff whine...
if i was buying a used s2k i would have the valves checked and adjusted before the purchase.

I agree. It is always best to have another opinion.

Its gona hurt getting rid of my baby but it willl be worth it in the long run. What is the cost of getting the valves done and a check up state side? I've even seen a few with warentee remaining but I dont know that it will do me any good once I get it home. So exc

roof rattle
diff whine
bent shift fork(ap1)
faded rear tail light
loud chunk when in reverse
tear top fabric
rear plastic tear/leaky gasket
compression number
bent frame
spark plug pop out
driver side autodown window(known for stopping half way)
after you got the car, do an alignment, clean the intake manifold(imfamous oil burn on early S, my mani is coated with oil film), add a catch can(eve in stock form), grease the shifter and inspect for broken plastic shifter mount.

Iam7head gives a good list...most important IMO is the compression. Have a leak down test done. Premature ring failure is not uncommon.
Check the valve spring retainers for cracks...sure sign the car was baddly over revved.
Not sure where you are going to buy in Cali, but if I were close enough to LA, I would take it to Church Automotive for inspection. Shawn Church is well respected in the S2k community and his shop can give an honest assessment of your potential purchase.

back off get your own sandwich. So where are the s2000 in the states manufactured. Its a factor for weather Ill have to pay duty or not. If you guys know of a clean s2k at a good price, please let me know
dohh.
It reads like this.
Generally, you do not have to pay duty on an imported vehicle that was manufactured in the united states , canada, or mexico; however, we will assess duty on a vehicle manufactured in a country other that the united states or mexico.
