Fiberglass JDM Front end
Does anyone here own or know someone who owns a a fiberglass version? I was in an accident and got barely enough from insurance to cover replacing my existing front, so my plans of JDM metal front end are no longer. I have heard people say fiberglass can be trouble, but I wanted first hand experience, Thx

i was in the same situation as you about a year ago....i did a little damage...so i got the jdm front end....its fiberglass but that was all the money i could afford at the time....and it was only 1000 more to get it than getting the usdm pieces i messed up so i got it (and i didnt go through insurance).....do i wish i would of gotten the OEM japanese front end yes....but i didnt have the cash.....mine fits prefect....and alot of people that have seen it think they did a good job....and i wasnt charged any extra for them having to make it fit perfect.....the paint and install only ran me $1200
but the fiberglass front bumper will chip easily so just be warned....good luck in your decision

my friends own a body shop that does conversions all the time - they won't even work with the fiberglass kit - the whole thing is jigga -a- rigatrey. So do yourself and your car a favor DO NOT BUY FIBERGLASS.
dont get the fiberglass front. a couple of people might say that it fits good, but the one's that i have seen fit pretty faulty. when parts are made out of fiberglass, the end product is not very consistent. some will fit good, but the chances are that yours will not. so i would suggest scrounging up the money and buying the oem honda parts. my front end is pure jdm oem, wouldnt put fiberglass on my car. besides if you ever get in an accident with that fiberglass front u can say good bye. the jdm front is flimsy as is with that @itch made bumper support.dont make it even worse for yourself. depending on where you live, i can get you the front for 2600 flat with the 98 and up OEM HID lights. all metal, all good. good luck
Why is everyone here assuming that it must fit perfectly?
And suggest that fiberglass kits are a fate worse than death?
I would argue that choosing OEM metal over fiberglass depends on what you want to do with your itr. If you go to the track you might want weight savings. It might be worth looking into a fiberglass option. I do not know what the fiberglass weighs as compared to OEM sheetmetal, but it might be a lot lighter. Itr's are already very front loaded and weight you can save up there will help balance your car (as long as you make the proper suspension adjustments to counter the change in weight distribution).
One common complaint I hear from fiberglass itr owners is that there are gaps above the headlights and in general. However, from far away you can hardly notice the gaps. Also many many cars for competition use have hideous body panel gaps. So I guess if you think race cars with lightweight body panels are ugly and you instead want to have Super-Street-stunna-show-car-perfect-fit quality, then OEM sheetmetal would be your best bet. Personally I'm getting OEM because I think resale will be higher if I can say everything is Honda OEM, and to be a stunna of course!
However there is a lot more to contribute to this debate, like how will the paint hold up on fiberglass etc. Anyone?
Anyway....
Here is someone's fiberglass JDM conversion itr pic that I stole off this board:
Here is a track ready bimmer exhibiting some rather curvatious deviations:
I hope I haven't made anyone crash into their keyboards from shock here.
