Hmmm....often times ppl mistaken blue smoke as white smoke because you can barely tell. From what you're sayin, it shouldn't be white smoke. It's most likely blue smoke if you're burning oil. Can you tell where the oil leak or where the smoke is comin from?

White smoke is coolant... check it again and make sure its not blue, which is oil.

When does it smoke? After starting or idling for awhile, or all the time? Worse when you get on it?

Color/smell? Like someone said earlier, steam and oil smoke are often confused. If there's kind of a sickly sweet smell to it, then you're losing coolant. You said you checked that though, so I'll trust you.

Does sound like your rings are bad. Can you do a compression test?

If it is smoke it will float around in the air, be blueish color and smell really bad. If it is water it will be white and disipate into the air very quickly.

just because it is an sir motor with 50k on it doesn't mean it's good. how was it stored before you got it. were all holes that go into the motor blocked off so no moisture can get in. i have noticed on these honda motors that if they sit for a long time with no cover on the ports they tend to burn oil. rings could get sticky or cylinders could get rusty from moisture causing rings to go bad prematurely. just a thought...
