machining wheel stud holes
right guys i have a problem. my new jdm racing sparco wheels from japan wont fit my delsol, or rarther they do fit but the oem studs are not quite long enougth.
basicly with my tunernuts (internal drive nuts) i can only get about 4mm onto the stud as the stud mounts are very long on these.
what i want to do is machine about 5-7mm off the nut mount to give me extra thread for the nuts to bit onto :D
here is what i am trying to do:

the blue is my open ended tuner nut, as you can see it just only hits the stud in about 3mm. the black is the alloy and the area i have marked in red lines is what i want to machine down (giving me more thread to bite into on my oem studs and meaning i dont have to fit extensions).
will i get away with taking this ammout off the wheels? i have 15mm to play with so would removing a third of this cause any problems?
cheers

right guys problem is sorted!
the wheels use a very specific type of lugnut to secure to oem legnth studs!

looks on the page at the BTR racing nuts, basicly they require a tapered internal drive nut.
here in the uk i cannot find a dealer for kosei nuts (plenty sell the wheels but none want to get me the nuts)
my soloution was to buy internal drive nuts (hardened steel units) and i has a machine shop lathe them down so they fitted correctly into the alloy like the kosei btr racing nuts do. it was not cheap but at least i can finally get my racing sparcos onto my delsol without having to change studs.
hope this helps someone ele in the near future
cheers

i dont have the facilitys to fit studs or the equipment, plus i would still require the same lug nuts anyway as i wouldnt run a normal nut sitting that far away from the disk face (hope you know what i mean) at least with the nuts sitting a few mm from the disk face i feel alot better
. also these nuts i had made up will make it alot easyer to locate the wheel nuts accuratly against the hub/disk face etc, so should i loose a nut for any reason (unlikely but you never know) i know there is near no chance of these nuts altering the wheels trueness whilst in motion etc.
i do actully have longer studs sat here, i just cant be asked to fork out £300 to hav them swapped in. i guess it wont be long before i require new wheel bearings so when one needs changing i will have them added then and save myself some £££
