First time at track...Any tips on racing?
I'm going to Sacramento raceway tonight to test my car ont he 1/4 mile strip. I remember once someone telling me to lower pressure on front tires and raise the pressure on the back? if so what is the pressure? and should i do it before I go to the track( i live 20 min away), or will they have air there for me to use? any other pointers or suggestions you guys have to get the best 1/4 mile time?
Thanks
Thanks
Gut the trunk or at least tale the spare and jack out. Don't forget to launch on the last yellow light and not on green.
my advice:
Don't **** up.
18 psi up front, 40 psi out back.
All the tracks I've been to, unless running on a pro tree, you go at the third yellow. If you scream, or blink in between, you will get owned. If you see green, you launched too late.
Oh, and don't do burnouts with street tires. Go around the water, then chirp the tires a few times to get the debri off.

what if it IS a pro-tree??? Huh?? Whats up now??

then youre even more fucked cause with pro tree all three sets of yellow come on at the same, then green. so if youre yellin when you see the yellow, by the time youre done yellin, the other person is already past the 60ft

Don't dump the clutch on the launch, feather off of it. It's a little harder on the clutch, but you will run best times feathering off. Otherwise, you will spin through 1st gear and bogg down to around 3k RPMs in 2nd---if that happens expect 16s, lol.
so what rpm do you guys generally dial in before launching? (for vtec ludes)
i know it isn't the same, but its interesting to note the S2000's get the best times dialing up to 8-9krpm then dumping the clutch...i guess this works with RWD + soft compound rubber: OEM S02's, and LSD

i rev to about 3700rpms and dump the clutch and i get 2.0 60ft times. you want your tires to spin a little and then grab. you have to get a feel for the right amount. you dont want to sit their and spin through your first gear, and you also dont want to launch too low and bog. your 60ft time has a lot in determining your 1/4 mile time. thats actually the first thing i look at when i get my slip.

I appologize for the link........ but it provides the basics of drag racing. Mustangs suck.

I would rev it to a certain rpm and dump the clutch(try different rpms). Your tires will spin but just ease into the throttle until you hook up then go full throttle(you may have to let off the gas momentarily if the tires are spinning too much). After a while you will know when your tirese will start hooking up and you should add a little more throttle just before the tires hook up. Also skip the water and just do a quick chirp of the tires like someone said above. If its your first time don't worry about the reaction time it won't make a difference on your qr mile time. Just focus on your launches. Good luck
