Default US honda fit suspension question

the new fit has torsion bar(beam) rear suspension.

i have read about this in several suspension books and i understand the concept. i have never actually done anything with a torsion bar set up in real life so i am only going off of theory.

the question is, why does the fit have torsion bars and springs?

it would probably make more sense if i saw but i cant find any good pics online. if anyone has some pics of the rear suspension or maybe could point me in the right direction, then maybe i could answer my own question.

thanks in advance

look through the fit forum, there is a bit of pics of the rear suspension.

As for why? Price and packaging. It's cheaper to make and it allows honda to have the flat floor all the way to the trunk.

the individual springs provide independent suspension. of course thats greatly hampered by the torsion beam, but it takes away from it.

also, the springs can be smaller and placed in a more convenient position for suspension packaging with this design, yet still be tunable. which makes for more interior room as mentioned.

most VW's are like that in the rear.

i think i should just go to the dealer and take a look at one

torsion bars are not the same as torsion beam.

torsion beam is like a huge swaybar. swaybars reduce independent suspension characteristics by nature.

1g crx/1g integra/ 3 g civics had torsion bars in the front instead of springs.
