Default b20/vtec vs. built b20z theory

just trying to compare these two...

I figure a stock crvtec would be the equivalent of a b20z with these following mods...

-cams
-bigger valves
-springs
-ported head
-ported intake manifold
-slightly higher compression pistons or milled head w/thinner gasket (whatever it takes to make up the 0.4cr defecit

Am i missing anything? Compare the costs here, you can get the b16a long block for $1g =/-, plus a hundred or two for the machine work and lines. And how much for all those non V fixins? Several thousand??? Either setup will need more fuel added and need to be revved higher to get the full power potential.

The good part about the V is you don't sacrifice idle quality and shouldn't lose the low end from moving the power band up like the non V. Any comments here?

Oh C'mon. Surely someone has some comments about this all important topic. Which road is cheaper, which road is more reliable...

i wish it were so simple as to just get a b16a longblock for +/- $1g and pay a couple hundred to a machine shop and you have crvtec. its not that simple. there's a LOT more to it. research, my friend. do the research. for instance even if you put a b16a stock head on a b20 stock block don't even think about rev'ing that thing high enough to take advantage of the vtec y0!
