roll bar/ cage --> SCCA solo2 rules
Does anybody know what defines a roll cage opposed to a roll bar? Because in the stock class you can have a bolted in cage or welded in roll bar i believe
13.2.G states: "Roll bars and roll cages may be added (See Appendix C). It is strongly recommended that roll cages be constructed according to Section 18 of the GCR, though they must be bolted (not welded) into the automobile and be contained within the driver/passenger compartment. Roll bars may be welded in. A roll cage has more than four attachment points to the body or frame, or has bracing both fore and aft of the main hoop."
So as long as you have 4 attachment points (2 for the main hoop and 2 for the rear braces of the main hoop) maximum, it is a "roll bar" and you can weld it. If you want more attachment points (like the forward main hoop braces found on NHRA roll bars, or A-pillar bars found on road racing cages), then it is a "roll cage" and must be bolted in if you want to remain in Stock.
My custom weld-in roll bar is an example of the "roll bar": http://dominationchassis.com/c...s.htm

sweet that roll bar is exactly what i want, the horizontal and cross brace on the rear two legs wouldnt count as "or has bracing both fore and aft of the main hoop." would it?
It seems silly that you cannot add a rear strut tie bar but you can weld a huge freakin horizontal bar into the roll bar. Wouldnt they accomplish the same thing??
Also has any one tried the jegs kit?? and do you think a wire feed arc welder would do the job for it?

not silly when you consider the importance of safety.
there are always exceptions and this is one that I would have to agree with. after all, how many people will jump at the opportunity to bolt a strut bar but will NOT put a 4-point regardless if that added safety will net over 10x the performance gain of tower bar.

That horizontal and the diagonal are welded to the rear main hoop supports, not to the chassis - the bar is welded to the chassis at only 4 points total.

Yes they do, but the minor benefits (if any) of bracing the strut towers are more than offset by the 50+lbs of steel you're adding to the car.

Very true, besides the safety factor I want 5pt belts to hold me in, and cages/rollbars look mean imo
any opnion on the jegs kit????
