Default 97 Prelude won't always start

I have a 97 prelude with 148k miles. It has been completely gone over with new plugs, wires, distributor, injectors, fuel pump, engine rebuild etc.

Fairly regularly I will try and start it, the fuel pump will kick on, the dash lights will come on and the green key light will blink but no start. If I play with it, push the clutch pedal in a couple of times etc, it eventually starts. Recently it has appeared to be taking longer to start up when this happens.

Any idea on what could be wrong?

well when you say you play with the clutch pedal it makes it sounds like your clutch pedal switch is going bad. try holding the key down and not moving it then push the clutch pedal up n down to test that switch. if it starts without moving the key at all i would suspect the clutch pedal switch. however, if by moving the clutch pedal only it wont start then its most likely the ignition switch.

my auto does this from time to time. blinking green key light means its something with the immobilizer. Im thinking, it doesnt read the code in the key, and even though it will turn the ignition switch, it wont allow the car to start.....

Is the dealer the only one who can work on the immobilizer? Is that generally an expensive thing to replace, and if it is, can it just be bypassed?

generally, dealer only, it is expensive to work on, and yes, you can bypass it. But why make your car easier to steal to save a couple hundred bucks?
