RSX Type R...IS NOT COMING TO US SHORES. NEVER!
I'm in the industry, so I have access to some info that average consumers dont have access to. I work for Volkswagen of America and I was working at the NY auto show on Sunday. I spoke to the marketing director for American Honda, and I caussually asked him "Whats the word on the RSX-R". His reply was, "There is no word, because that car will never make it here". I then asked why, and he said that the car was not coming for three major reasons. And I repeat, this is not speculation or hearsay. These words were uttered straight for the mouth of this guy, who is a major decision maker for Honda of America.
1. It is not US crashtest worthy in JDM/Euro spec form (bumper supports, side bags, etc.)
2. Will NOT meet US '03-'04 LEV standards in the 220hp Type R configuration.
3. Making the car US market friendly would not make it affordable nor desirable to previous Type R owners.

2. Aren't Japan emissions much strickter than US?
3. How? Worked before... its almost a regular RSX
But there are ways to fix them:
1- add bumper support (like what is done to the old Integra)
2- detune it to meet the standards (like what they did with the old integra)
3- replace all the expensive stuff (like seats, just like what they did to the old ITR)

You`d be surprised how much Honda employees are kept in the dark. they said this one year before the s2k hit the states, too. I`m in the "industry" also.

they should bring the R back!!!
its the next generation!!!!
i dont' understand why their not bringing it over!
when all the civics and integras 10 years of technology die
out (unbelievable but will someday) RSX's and Civics now will be
talked about
engine swaps
N/A buildups
turbo!!!
NOS ect...
I pray to the honda engineers
the smartest people in the world!

in regards to the emmisions...
Yes JADM has stricter emmisions laws, but you have to remember that they get a minimum of 100 octane over there. So it burns cleaner. Being the cheap bastards that we are... we get 87 which sucks *****. I would gladly pay more money for better gas.

I don't believe that at all...........Honda would be stupid to not bring it over.......for the past few years millions of teenagers and import enthusiastes have gawked at and wanted a Type R.......this is an image thing.........the teg Type R was not even very profitable for Honda but I'm sure it helped sell a lot of their other cars
1. How's the body different from regular RSX?

I don't see no sheetmetal difference between the DC5R and the RSX.
Unlike the DC2R, where Honda had to convert it to the 4 round lights front end in order to sell it in the States (so that they could put stupid styro foam behind the bumper cover).
2. Aren't Japan emissions much strickter than US?
So I really don't see how the words coming out from that guy's mouth being trustworthy.
Doesn't 100 octane not burn as clean? I think you have to be able to burn that high of an octane (High compression, turbo, etc.) for it to completely burn at all. That is why California switched to 91 octane instead of 92, not all the "premium" burning cars needed 92 octane.

They gas is cleaner.
That's why Mitsubishi's GDI (gasoline direct injection) gives them as high as 56mpg and it is abscent in the rest of the world. Low sulfur contamination makes difference.
Also, Australian Type R got the RSX-S engine, IMHO it supports the idea of emissions control difficulties.

isn't that a type-S???

The RSX-S as is now comes with 200hp, correct? If they de-tuned the RSX-R to meet CA smog requirements there would hardly be a distinction between the S and R versions.
However, the S2k is a ULEV vehicle...
Methinks HoA is st00pid.

Some of you may be skeptical, but the fact of the matter is that. ANything short of the JDM RSX-R is gonna be a gay attempt at a "specialty car". Which will be a classic case of "Badge engineering". Leave it alone and leave it overseas. It will only make out DC2-R's more valuable and rare.
