ls gears are longer...and give turbo more spooling time

Compared to an LS transmission, the shorter, closer gear ratios of the GSR transmission are always better for NA or turbo.

okay if your pushing BIG power then go with the ls transmission because the longer gears will help with traction etc. If your doing just a moderate slap on turbo set up then its your choice but i heard that ls tranny is better for turbo.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but 1 and 2 gear are the same in the gsr and ls trannys. Its 3 gear the makes the big difference. Also shorter gears would make the turbo spool faster therefore being better for turbo in my opinion. But like I said correct me if I'm wrong.

if what you say b18bme is true than a b16 tranny would be great for turbo but ppl rather use the gsr and ls

But wouldnt you be able to stay in the power band longer with the LS tranny?

Well the b16 tranny is very short geared so traction becomes the problem because the turbo spools to fast and it doesnt keep you in the power band long enough before you shift into the next gear. All this depending on what turbo your running also what size of slicks or tires makes a difference on how fast the tranny pulls you through the gears.

My bro has a 600+ hp turbo hatch and he put in a b16 tranny and pulled an INSANE 60 foot and was on track to run low 10's until he shifted to third and the tranny blew. He had just barely run a 10.4 the run before but with his INSANE 60 foot we know it would have atleast been better then 10.4. So I guess it really depends on personal opinion. These times were faster then any run he did with a gsr tranny.

I think gsr tranny is better for turbo then the ls tranny and that is my final answer.

Actually only first gear is the same. Second all the way through fifth are all longer gears. I know this because i had an Ls tranny and then i switched to a gsr tranny and also HOnda tech says so haha.

And also you are right some people prefer different trannies but from what i heard from people's experiences, they seem to like the LS tranny better. But what the heck if you can pull of better times in a b16 trans then more power to ya

Somebody provide some proof of the ls and gsr tranny ratios. I could have sworn that 1 and 2 are the same between the trannys the final drive is different therefore possibly making second gear feel shorter in the gsr. But I am trying to search for some answers.

ls tranny suck, close gear is always better. your never gonna go 180 mph all the time on a street car lol. Close gears keeps u in the higher rpm range, which is where honda motors make their power... so duh.. its pratical. Spool time has NOTHING to do with a transmission, its in the motor and turbo size and other characteristics.

Well think about it, the faster you moter gets through the gears the faster your rpm's hit redline, it won't make the turbo itself spool faster but makes the motor rev faster because of the shorter gears making the turbo hit full boost sooner. Make sense?

No, it makes no sense. If you are waiting for a turbo to spool when the engine is at redline, you made some very poor choices when designing the turbo. Shorter, closer gear ratios are always better. Don't believe me, only use gears 1, 3, and 5; you should have plenty of "spool" time then.

this bs again?? To OP...those claiming that an ls tranny is better for boost have absolutely no clue of what they are talking about...Shorter gears will ALWAYS be better for any racing application...And to those yelling traction sir traction sir....YOU DONT DOWNGRADE YOUR TRANSMISSION TO GET TRACTION, YOU ATTEMPT TO GET BETTER TIRES, TRACTIONS BARS, ETC...Thats the MOST backwards thing ive heard in order to gain traction...

Yes. Invest in a good LSD for your transmission.
