Thought I would share some pics from my custom sub box.
I have some before pics and some detailed pics of the fibreglassing which I will uplolad later tonight.
Before was a big boring rectangular box which took up my entire trunk. Thats no good, but sounded nice.
So I decided to make custom boxed to fit in the spaces to the sides. I will lose some space and hence some bass and quality perhaps (dunno yet) but it will be worth it for a clean look and the use of my trunk space again.
So here we go with what my brother has done for me today.
We already made the fibreglass fit to the empty space, now we are making the fronts.

The gaps will be fiberglassed together to make a smooth curved finish.
And the MTX subs will be around for a little longer, but when I get the $$$ something better will find a home there.
comments and flames, all are welcome as a bump to my thread

To fit the fiberglass into the curved space we first covered the space with masking tape or painters tape to protect the plastic, and then we covered in duct tape because the resin sticks to the masking tape but not the duct tape.
The masking tape is needed because the duct tape leaves sticky crap on your plastics.
Then we cut our fibreglass cloth into sqaures ranging from 2inch X 2inch to about 4inch X 4inch.
Then lay in your squares of cloth and resin over. You will want the cloth and resin to go several inches beyond where you want it to go so you can cut it to size later.
We did two layers of this then let it dry. We waited a week but didnt need to. I just drove around with it in the car. It smelt bad but was ok.
After that, remove the whole thing, take the tape off the back and then cut the now hard fibreglass to size.
I found a good write up that I followed I will link that for you here.

Excellent write up that covers everything you should need to know.
I shall keep you all posted, this should all be done by end of the week. I am hoping to have it all nice for the Colorado H-T meeting

There will be another box on the other side aswell so I can keep both my 10''s

what about the bit ur joining is what i meant (i wondered how u did that also so
anyway)</TD></TR></TABLE>
The joined bit will be some fabric stretched across and then resined. After that is dry will be bondo'd and sanded for a smoother finish.
Check the how-to I linked for a better description with pics.
I am undecided as to wether I will carpet it or not afterwards.

get it really smooth and paint it good, imo will look better than carpet.

Some updates.
The fiberglassing has been completed.
The MDF front has been connected to the fibreglass back and the gaps have been fibreglassed together.
Now we are in the process of using Bondo to smooth it all out then we will paint it and use it :D

I agree, I think I am going to lose some quality of sound because the space is too small. But we shall see.

Yeah, its really just a waiting game :S
On the upside though, its really not hard work, just been alot of work, and the whole project's been fairly cheap.
