Default Anyone seen the movie "The axle in the trans?"...

Damn it. I have tried everything! I used a pry bar, only too bend it almost too the point of breaking, pickle fork which looks like its just killing the housing, a punch from the other side and Its been lubed up with penetrating lube the whole time...AHHHHHH!

Someone in my other thread said to use a pick and compress the ring...I think they were high, because there is NO way you can get to the ring when its in the diff.

Any suggestions as too how I can get this damn sword out of the stone?
TIA,
Bryson

Get a thin piece of wood and set it under the pry bar so that it does not ruin your case. Go and get yourself a nice quality bar that wont bend or break and keep rippen at it and it will pop out. I can garuntee you that my Snap On pry bar will rip that thing out in a matter of minutes.

Wedge the piece of wood between your bar and the case. It will even give you a little more leverage. You know what else might work. If you can get 2 people to each pry on opposite sides of the axle to evenly apply pressure, that might work.

It will come out, it has to. I have a 2 foot prybar from Snap On and that thing is indestructable. If you were closer I would love to come help you out. Try it first.

I have a pickle fork attachment for my air hammer, works every time. I remember having so much trouble getting those off before.

Problem with prying it is that the prybar only levers one side so that the other side is still jammed. Wedging anything in there offsets it and makes it harder to get out. Try just lightly hammer punching a pickle fork in there. Don't try to pry it, just try different angle. I'd come over with the air hammer if you were in Austin.

Well try a combination of using the pickle fork with a hammer and have your buddy bang on it from the oter side at the same time maybe you can pound it out that way.

Just an idea, but;

Would it be possible to use a long drift punch through the center of the differential to drive it out??

Ya, I know that the spider gear shaft may be in the way if you have a non-LSD differential.

We used an elaborate system of straps and an engine hoist to pull one out... we found that the problem was the ring was jammed flat between the axle and the hole...VERY ugly and most likely dangerous, but the transmissions survived, and that's all that mattered.

Just use 2 or more prybars to apply even pressure to both sides of the axle.. It should pop out with minimal effort

I've seen this!!!!

Unfortunately for me, there was NOTHING, I could do, I mean NOTHING.

I was short of king ******* kong prying the axle out and I bet you it still wouldn't have came out. I realized the axle was moving with the differential and anything I did would eventually expletive up the differential. I even brought it to a shop. The diagnosis was get a new diff. which for me equaled buying a new tranny. I ended up selling the tranny with the seized axle for an 20gig ipod.

Good luck man, I know what it's like

If there is I'd like to know it for future referance. Mind you I brought this car to a renowned shop and they couldn't get it off.

Seen this before... you need a bearing puller between the axle and the diff housing.

They do come big enough, we have one at the shop that we used to do this on an Si tranny, it's 5 or 6 inches across.

This happens to us at work all the time when we are replacing a transmission in a Honda oddy van .. its very simple believe it or not I cut 3 steel coat hangers to make 3 long pick like rods, ground the edges down with a bench grinder so they are pointed and then use those through the other side of the diff to help colapse the lock ring on the axle then simply use your pry bar or have a friend use it makes it easier on you .. sorry if my spelling is bad but you should be able to understand what I trying to say
