Default Grinding Gears

I am experiencing a grinding when shifting from 2nd to 3rd at RPM's over 8K. Have any of you experienced this before? Normal I don't think it should be???

Most likely a worn synchro. In my experience it is always the 3rd gear synchro that wears out first, and then usually followed by fourth gear. It has happened on all 3 Hondas I've ever owned, starting with the 2-3 shift at high rpms. Be nice to it, maybe shift a little slower, but it will get worse over a period of time.

Its called bad synchros, It is a problem that develops from what we like to call spirited driving. If you have ever ground going into 3rd you possibly damaged the gear itself which will only get worse. Warranty time. I just had my tranny rebuilt by the Acura dealer in the fall for the same problem. My car is a 2000 ITR, it had 12k very hard miles on it. AND no its not normal.

3rd gear synchro...mines shot and goin in too!
Are they gonna try to blame it on the aftermarket cat-back and AEM intake? If so that'll hafta come off before I take it in!

Yes...Mine had this problem...only if you shifted at redline.
Took it in, and they replaced the synchros.
No problem, then they told me to stop shifting at redline.
I told them, they'd see me back soon, if that was the case

My tranny makes a slight grind during the 1-2 shift. I have an Si and our Tranny's are pretty similar. As for mods, they are listed in my sig. Do you think Honda should cover this under warranty? I'm kind of reluctant to take in my car. I mean what am I supposed to say? "Oh my car grinds when I shift from 1-2 at 8000 RPM's?" Will they blame it on my mods? Also I purchased my car used from a Honda Dealer and it is Honda certified so I have an extended warranty.

Take it in!
That's what I did! I didn't have mods, but still, they should know that a header won't lead to tranny problems. I took them for a drive, they drove it, then I drove it with them in there, and the manager saw the problem first hand, and told me they'd take care of me....one week later, done!
No problems since.
Take it in..don't worry.

How much will this cost if you don't have warranty? Could you do it your self?
