Manual rack swap question
Ok, yes I searched and my question is this:
Want to swap a 99 manual rack into a 96 hatch. I understand I will have to swap the subframes, but how hard is this? Aren't they welded in?

Who told you that? According to Honda, the two steering boxes have the same part # so, there's no difference between them -- at all. There's a piece of sheet metal you have to take off to get at the rack. It's a "Stiffening plate", not the crossmember.
1) Read the manual
2) If you don't follow the procedure you'll destroy the "wire spool" in the steering wheel which means the horn and air bag will stop working and you'll get an SRS code. I destroyed mine so I know what I'm talking about. It wasn't cheap to replace either.
3) You WILL need a new steering wheel to rack coupler (u-joint looking thing). The PS one won't work on a manual rack (if you have PS now). The shaft diameter's different. The manual rack is Slower than a PS one too. I use a PS rack with the hoses looped because of the faster speed.
In fact, I put the guts of an integra rack into my EK rack in order to get the Integra's faster steering ratio.
All in all it's a pretty easy job. You'll need an alignment when you're done.

I have both cars complete (99 is wrecked), should I just swap over the steering wheel to rack coupler also? Thanks for the advice so far!

MasterKwan - Did you use a PS Integra rack's internal and put them into a Manual EK rack? What other parts did you use? Was the u-joint necessary, as you mentioned?
