i have 90 crx si. 2nd gear grinds but other gears are fine. Is it time to replace clutch?

 

Your second gear synchro is bad!

 

so its not the clutch. do ineed to get synchro are they cheap??

 

is it bad if i keep driving like this with the gear grinding. This is my beater car and i will eventually swap the motor to b16 later on.

 

could it be tranny fluid is old

 

Also i have cel. My cat is making noise like clatter noise. Could this be culprit. Car pass smog 2 months ago.

 

My 86 CRX Si does the SAME thing.. it's just a little bit of a grind when I shift into 2nd.. nothing really bad, but it's enough that I notice it.

 

try a 50/50 mix of sychromesh and honda MTF for a while....

might eliviate some of it until you swap.

 

The 2nd and 3rd gear synchros will go bad in CRX's alot of the time. I know alot of people always have trouble with 3rd synchros getting messed up more than 2nd though.

 

D series = Bad 2nd gears when beaten on.

Each tranny has there own.

 

Im getting my rex fixed by a friend dents and dings and then primered. Ill try the tranny mix with synchromesh

 

gm syncromesh works great. sychro is gone, its not bad to keep driving it its just going to get worse if you keep beating on it in that gear. try draining your tranny fluid and changing if its old it might not be lubricating well enough. what is your CEL light on for. should fix that you know!

 

cel is on because my cat is making a clunk noise so i believe thats why. Gm syncromesh works great ?? How do i change tranny fluid on crx. Im more familiar with tegs not rex since im new to rex. I chose the crx si for project car because it is the best candidate for swap. No need to swap axles/hubs
