Default Anyone tune their ls/vtec to only rev to 7500ish?

Whats up guys. Im thinking of a budget build possibly. And I was wondering, has anyone ever tuned there ls/vtec to peak around 7500ish?

I know most rev the **** out of them, but im curious if you can still make power like this.

All i would need is an ls short block, and i would probably do a real mild rebuild.

I wouldnt use anything larger than ITR cams, and the car already has a b16 full swap with basic mods.

The purpose is to sacrific some power for piece of mind and reliability. Would look to make around 180whp.

What do you guys think?

most motors with the ITR cams peak around 7800-8100, so that shouldent be a problem

Good to know, but with cam gear tuning could you peak a few hundred rpms earlier?

it might be possible but thats just how small motors are, you gotta rev them to get power

i wanted my rev limit at 7.5k for my b20vtec but i got laughed at. however with ITR cams i think its def. doable.

If it peaks a 8k you will want to rev it past that to like 8.3k for best performance. The way to go for a 7.5k motor is you need is real mild cam. Honda made such a cam but was only used in the Japanese market in a b16a car with a automatic trans. I have a pair of these cams but I see no need to go to these lengths. Just put in a set of gsr or b16a cams and limit it to 8k with arp rod bolts and it will be fine if everything is done right. Dan

Yeah i know the usuall saying, buid it right and it will run forever. This Im well aware of.

The engine i have now is a b16, so I could set teh vtec transition lower since the botom end will be bigger, but could you make 180whp with b16a cams? probably not.

This is more of a tuning question i guess. I think with a basic ls/vtec, bolt-ons and itr cams, most can mae around 180whp, depending on the dyno. Im just curious if you could build a motor with fat mid range power, only rev it 7500, and stil lmake good power.

Looking to see if anyone has done this, or tried.

another thing to think about is would it be worth it to just throw some beefy cams in the b16? Something that would add soe nice midrange?

I don't really understand all this, but thats why it's not my motor. BC3+'s will peak around the 7,500-7,8 mark with a stock head and you will hit 180 without any problems. With anything smaller than a type r cam I think 180 whp is gonna be a bit tough.
