Default Tach Not Working At All - 88 Crx Si Why???

I have an 88 Crx si, stock tach. Car was down for a while, for an engine reuibld

I got the car running bu tthe tach wont work, my shiftlight turns on but my tach goes knowwhere. The wires are all plugged in and everything but I cant get it to work

Need some ideas

it might be your distributor going bad try using a different one.

check for voltage on the line coming from the dizzy and go from there get a helms

What should the voltage be at? I did T into it for my shiftlight, dunno if that woullda done anything, I never cut the wire, just spliced into it

get a multimeter, set it to A/C voltage.

ground the black, hook up the red to the solid blue wire from the distributor, it should fluctuate just like teh tach does when you rev the motor.

your strongest possibility is a poor connection at the the dizzy itself, the main harness through the firewall, or a bad cluster unit.

if you find a/c voltage that moves with the tach at the dizzy, pull the cluster and test it again there. if you lose it along the way, its a break in the wire, if its the same at the cluster itself, replace the cluster with a known good one.

if the cluster is ok, then the ignitor is gone in the dizzy.

I dont think its the tune though, it just runs so dam bad, i'' have video of it tonight, gonna grab spark plugs after work just cause there cheap ones and i reused them

i have a similar problem? But mines not the tach its the speedometer? dont mean to thread jack but any one have ideas y my speedometer doesnt work?

So I swapped the cluster, tach worked fine, awesome, go for a drive and boost the motor, i think I broke the speedo, made it up to 170 or so then it just way back down to 20 and slowly dropped and stopped working, dammnit

replace the cable from the cluster to the trans.
