b16 ID number and the Las Vegas DMV...
i plan on swapping within the next month a b16 into my crx and i told my dad about the swap and he said, "well do you have to re-register the new engien or somthing with the dmv?"
question being is about 2 months ago there was a huge bust at the street races and they checked EVERYONES engine number to see if it was stolen or somethin....
so my question is, what do i gotta do to make sure i am not falsely accused by the police for having an engine not rightfully mine... do i get any papers of verification of the engine if i buy it from a reputable shop or a shop in Japan (like a receipt saying i bought it?) then if i do get it, do i have to tell em i got a new engine ro soemthin?

um lets see, 1. stop going to street races and take that sh*t to the track!!!!
2. dont tell anyone youve done swap especially the dmv or police
3. You should get a receipt proving proof of purchase, unless the cops in las vegas have a way to look up japanese vin numbers i dont think theyll assume you stole it.

In theory, if the number does not come up, they can't accuse you of having a stolen motor since that number isn't marked as stolen. In practise, they'd probably try to pin something on you because the number didn't come up. I would carry a receipt from where you purchased the motor (actually, a photocopy would be better) just in case. It couldn't hurt, and it might save some aggravation.
