Any thoughts? This thing kills my Protege....has camber bolts, Koni's, and can fit 245's. Hope it's got something, or I'm stuck codriving...LOL.

 

are you asking if it can be competitive? If so I think just about anything can be at the local level.

 

Actually I'm more concerned with how it will stack up against the MINI, 318i, and 89-91 Si in HS against national drivers. Nobody has tried one so I guess I'm on my own. I got close to some national drivers in MINIs in the Protege, so I feel that this car has a lot of potential. Just seeing if anyone else agrees.

 

May I ask why you don't go with a proven car if you're serious about winning?

 

Yes you may. For the money I am paying per month to lease this, I could have bought a Kia Rio. I like driving a new car that is under warranty. I like the feel of the car and it is a great daily driver. It was also just moved down from GS and nobody has tried one in HS. Power to weight and steady state corners this car should be better than the MINI (155hp 2700lbs, more tire, more camber). It will lose to a MINI in the slaloms. So my thought would be that depending on the course, This car may have a leg up. I was just seeing if anyone else agrees. I tried to convince myself to get a MINI, but the difference in monthly payment and horrible ergonomics swayed me in this direction. This car is also a much better DD.

If it doesn't pan out well, I have a great daily driver that I can walk away from in 3 years, (two seasons, as we are committed to the Miata locally for 2006 and will drive Junior's Z-28 in FS at the DC Pro). I have two years to see what it will be capable of.

Well, I think it has *potential*, but it's hard to overlook that horrible, horrible rear suspension.

If you want it to transition like a mini then don't be afraid of a massive front bar, as in the largest you can find for it.

And does Koni make a full strut, or just inserts? You'll definetly want DA up front at the minimum.

You can get a DA Koni up front. They can insert their race shock into the front strut body. No revalving needed!

Actually, the binding issues in the rear aren't as bad at stock ride height. When you start to lower the car is where you run into issues.

Weight and tire are definitely decent on the RSX. 245's in HS is fantastic. You can dial out rear toe to get the car to rotate decently. And yeah, I would experiment with the 02-03 Civic Si front swaybar. It is the biggest one, I think at 25mm (RSX-S is 22mm).

&lt;-- Running an EP3 in HS. There's about 3 of us here in SoCal who're starting to experiment and set our cars up. I'm guessing that setting an RSX up would be similar.

245s is HUGE if they fit without rub - that'll be your ticket right there.

We're going to be comparing the EP3s with and without a BIG front sway pretty soon. Progress makes a 27mm SOLID front sway for the RSX/EP3 that should be significantly stiffer than the 25mm stock hollow bar on the Civic. We'll probably have to run some toe out in the rear to balance for rotation. But as it stands with just Konis and V710s, the car doesn't turn in as nicely as it could.

I'm still not sold that any of the cars that got moved down to HS this year can put up a fight against the ultralight superhandling Mini. But we'll have fun trying.

 

Yep...fighting as an underdog has always been my thing anyway. Plus I really enjoy the car when I am on the street, which was not so much the case with my Protege. Good luck with the EP....let me know how things turn out.
