tech question. brake lamp?
hi i know this is a newb question but i bought my car without a manual so i cant look it up. well i have a 4th gen prelude and the "brake lamp" light started going on 3 days ago. well im thinkin of bleeding the brakes but is this what the light indicates? i had this happened before and i replaced the brake pads and the light went off but now the pads are still pretty thick. so do you guys know what the light really indicates? thanks
I have the same problem, but my brake fluid is at max and all my bulbs(brake, reverse and turn signals) are ok, what else could it be ?
lude-tech, is your hand brake signal lighting too with the brake lamp ?

Actually, this problem is known to just be a prelude-comming-of-age problem. All lamps work, brakes are fine, but the light goes on. Mine did that as well. There seems to be some wiring problem when it comes to that light, because a LOT of people get that, with nothing wrong. ignore the light... at least its not a CEL
and i believe it is directly referring to one of (or both) tail brake lights

Don't know if this helps, but the third brakelight actually has (2) bulbs, so if it looks like one is working don't just assume that both lights are working. I did a visual test to see and had to take the cover off to actually see that one worked and one was burned out...
Good luck!

Brake light bulbs are double-sided. My suggestions:
1. Turn on your lights and see if the rear lights come on. If they do, try step two. If not, buy a new bulb.
2. Hit the brakes with the lights on. If the light intensifies and it's not your brake fluid or anything like that, it's most likely wiring.

How could you check it comes from the brake fluid level sensor or the hand brake sensor ?
Could you just unplug these one by one to see if the brake lamp shut down ?

I believe there is a stop lamp switch behind the brake pedal that could be your problem if all of the lights are good.
Does the light come on when you start the car or only the after you push the
brake pedal?
If it's the latter of the two, I'm guessing the switch is your problem.
