Warner Home Video has announced that John Frankenheimer's classic 'Grand Prix' will be released in the US on July 11, 2006 in a Two Disc 40th Anniversary Special Edition.


Special Features will include four never before seen documentaries and the archival film 'Grand Prix: Challenge of the Champions', taking viewers behind the scenes of '60s Formula One racing. The restored 65mm film will be released in widescreen format with a re-mastered Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack.

I've only watched parts of it, but the split screen stuff was way ahead of it's time back then, it's a 'real' racing movie, no cornball **** like they have now a days...

I have seen the movie its well made for its time. I will buy the DVD as well.

That was just a full cut and paste right out of my e-mail, they got my addy when I signed the petition.

 

Yes indeedy it is due July 11. Amazon and another site are taking pre-orders right now. Having seen it in the theater when first released-this version should be really good. The VHS isn't bad but this one has a lot more. It took petitions from over 7000 fans to make this happen and I hope every one will buy it. Remembr that at least one scene-Monza crash-is based on an actual tragic event. Do you know who the driver was?

It's finally out!!

Looks and sounds great!

Has some great extras about F1 in the 60's and some great commentary by some of the drivers. Peter Windsor from SPEED channel is on there as well.

If you'd like to see it before you buy it, it will be on TCM this Saturday (7/15/06)
