tranny grinds....no bueno
ok if i shift to 2nd after about 4500 rpms it grinds hella loud...and sometimes it doesnt go in to reverse and when it finally does it grinds...does this mean the tranny is givin out or what? im not sure when the last time the tranny fluid was changed...
manny....
ya i know it usually grinds...but i mean it sometimes wont even go into reverse you gotta really throw it in there and when it does go in it grinds..

alright...i'm guessing it's a manny since you said that you shift to second...(unless you are one of those wanna be manual's that shift their auto's)...this could be a result of this transmission fluid being low...but you can check that easily...if it's not that then i don't really know what to tell you...
ok yeah this is a really stupid question..but ive been wanting to change out the tranny fluid for a while..but not sure how...how do i go about doin this?

When the car doesn't want to go into reverse (or any gear), don't force it. For reverse, I'll sometimes put the car in 1st gear, and then in reverse, and it goes in smoother (for some odd reason that I can't explain).

I think it has to do with the teeth on the gears not being lined up
On a manual transmission there are little forks that lockup the gear that you are using. If the for isnt lined up then it wont go in. Fluid helps but reverse tends to have less teeth than the other gears making it harder to go into. This is just an assumption going on what I have learned off of http://www.howstuffworks.com

have a transmission specialist do it for you...you have to remove the transmission itself and then it has to be resealed afterwards...it costs about $150 to have done but if it needs to be done it needs to be done!

one 17mm bolt is to drain the other is to fill. Make sure you get a funnel that can bend the fill hole is typically sideways from what I have seen.
I'm not sure if its with all other transmissions, but on 4th gens, there's 2 small bolts (17 mm sounds about right) on the bottom of the transmission right to the upper left of the CV boot. The lowest one is where you check the fluid. the one that is the next bolt up clockwise is the fill bolt. its pretty easy to see but it can be a pain in the butt to fill.

This may not apply to you, but I had a bad clutch slave cylinder (a Honda weakpoint) which leaked fluid slowly enough that after a while, the clutch would not engage fully and would make a grinding noise while shifting.

I think all the manual trannies hold two qt, I bought a funnel with a large bendy extension on it, I could probably change the fluid in less than fiveteen min.
