Default timing belt

hey im new to the forum wondering if anyone can answer this for me. my freind has a 94 prelude w/ an h23 motor non v-tec and the other day he snapped his timing belt. He wants me to do the job and i keep telling him its an interference motor and he most likely bent a valve and he should just buy a new head but he wants me to do the timing belt anyways. i was wondering if its 100% that he bent a valve and if not is there any test i can run just to make sure. i dont feel like doing the timeing and not have it start and do it all over again

But he can't do a compression test without a properly installed timing belt. Otherwise he will definitely bend a valve

haha duh....either convince the guy he needs a valve job (probably does anyways being 11+ years old, or remove the the upper timing belt cover, and rotate the cams and crank by hand (making very sure that you are rotating them so that the cams and crank are turning with the same cylinder at TDC), then do a leakdown test while each cylinder is at TDC

90% chance of bent valves....they can be bent so minutely that you can't see it with your naked eye, but a machine shop can tell you. I bent all of my valves when my TB slipped.

if you can't convince him that he has bent valves b/c he snapped his timing belt.. then I suggest that you don't do the work.. b/c you're basically wasting your time changing it...

Please explain your infinate knowledge of honda motors to the rest of us. I would love to hear it, chances are that if you snap a timing belt or have it slip, have your tensioner fail you are going to bend some valves. You could even have piston damage because your pistons would be the ones closing the valves for you. Example, your timing belt snaps when your exhaust valves are open, they are not going to close on their own, along comes a piston and bingo your valves are closed now.. and you have some repair work ahead of you ie all your exhaust valves and possibally your pistons.

Yeah, you just need to stop posting because that's rediculous. You have no idea what is happening with his engine....you sound like some scammer mechanic who thinks he knows everything and does crappy work because you're soooooo confident that every little thought in your head is right.
